City Pulse

By Susan Romero

Luca Luca’s Spring 2011 collection is reminiscent of sherbet colored sunsets and the promise of summer. Shades of orange, pink and stunning purple hues contrasted well with the bold-eyed make-up by James Kaliardos for MAC Cosmetics and understated, elegant, yet edgy hair by Teddy Charles for Remington.

James Kaliardos dreamt up a serenely elegant, simple face with a bold eye and soft, yet defined lip to accent the clothes. Kaliardos used Paint Stick on the lids in pink, blue and yellow, along with eyeliner under the eye that was gently smudged. Mascara in Bad, Bad Black, was used on the top lashes and the cheeks were lightly colored in Bone Beige with Pearl to highlight. The lips were soft in a peachy colored lipstick called So Vein, for a matte look.

The hair by Teddy Charles was equally sophisticated and complimented the softness of the clothes, yet provided a contrasting hard edge with crimping throughout the hair. Charles said that each model’s hair was crimped and then sectioned and pulled back before twisting together in the back and putting up in a bun. To blow dry and crimp the hair, Charles used the T Studio styling tools made by Remington, which will be sold at Target in October.

I must admit that I could live in Luca Luca’s collection. I was a bit distracted by the clothes backstage, wishing to try them on. But I digress. The hair and make-up was absolutely perfect for the collection.
