When was the last time you had a candied bacon, maple cream cheese macaron? Yeah…we haven’t either. Enter Macaron Parlour, the East Village‘s newest pop-up-turned-permanent shop, which churns out artisanal macarons in unexpected flavor combinations that range from s’mores to Earl Grey.

The store, which had its soft opening recently, occupies a cozy space on St. Mark’s Place with exposed wood beams and whitewashed brick. Husband and wife founders Christina Ha and Simon Tung — who operate both the ovens and the register – have taken care to create the kind of personable vibe that makes sitting in their café-style seating so appealing.

While Macaron Parlour sells a variety of baked goods (including chocolate chip cookies, raspberry croissants, and a killer cinnamon bun with streusel), they specialize in macarons that defy convention. As delicious as they are beautiful, the signature treats make wonderful gifts, party favors — or straight-up afternoon snacks.
PS: If you’d like to follow in their macaron-pioneering footsteps, Christina and Simon will be teaching classes in a special kitchen-classroom area, beginning in 2013.
