Fashion & Accessories

It’s that time of year again: holiday shopping season. Finding the perfect gift for that special fashionista in your life can always seem like a challenge, even more so when you’re on a budget. What do you get the girlfriend, mother, sister, roommate, best friend who seems to have everything? Not to mention, seems to have everything straight off the runway. This isn’t a situation where a Starbucks gift card will do. And then add in the fact that with the dozens of other people you need to buy for, how can you afford her luxury tastes? Relax. There are plenty of fashionable gift options out there that she’ll be certain to love and to actually wear.

Not usually being one to buy into celebrity lines, I must admit that I love Nicole Richie’s House Of Harlow 1960 jewelry. This gold-plated and leather drop necklace is sure to impress the pickiest of style icons. It works with jeans, it works with dresses, it’s made of leather, therefore it’s cool, and it’s only $65. Pick one up at Bloomingdales.

Also at Bloomingdales, how about trying a twist on the traditional bathrobe gift? This eye-catching Betsey Johnson velour and lace short robe is very special. All girls love Betsey and at only $85 it’s a bargain, considering she’ll probably never want to take it off.

Vests are hot this season, especially those that are draped. I love this DKNY faux leather vest from Macys. It’s cruelty-free and it adds a touch of hip to any outfit for only $69.

With winter approaching, all stylish women will be looking for some new coats to wear. I suggest checking out the pieces in Target, my go-to place for well-made, designer-looking pieces for less. I love this olive green military trench by Converse and this camel wool robe-coat by Merona. Both military trenches and camel-colored coats are hot trends for this winter. At $70 each, you could buy her both.

Visit Anthropologie for an amazing array of shabby chic, yet well-crafted, jewelry pieces. These beautiful green Dubliners chandelier earrings are 18K gold plated, over brass, and adorned with quartz and glass. Handmade, they are a treasure at only $68 a pair.

A fun gift for the label lover/animal lover (such as myself) is this cute Marc by Marc Jacobs tee entitled “Dogs of Marc By Marc Jacob“. Only $98, it features depictions of all of the dogs on the Marc by Marc Jacobs staff on the front and Marc Jacob’s three dogs on the back. Find it at Bloomingdales. It’s adorable and a perfect fashion find.

Slouchy bags are in and also make a perfect gift. These two by Steve Madden, the BBriana and the BWeave, are eye-catching and hip. Also cruelty-free, you can take your pick of either for $98.

And what Holiday Season would be complete if someone didn’t receive a pair of gloves? I know, boring you may say. But not this pair by Juicy Couture. These leather and knit gloves are perfect for the chronic texting fashionista or Blackberry user. With a cutout thumb and forefinger, she won’t need to choose between keeping warm and staying connected. At $78, this gift will be going to a few of my technology obsessed friends.

So don’t stress. There are plenty of options out there that you can afford to give to your favorite fashionista. Don’t forget to hit the stores early for the best selection. As we get closer to the holidays, inventory becomes limited and chaos is sure to ensue.
