Urban living comes with all types of challenges:

Finding an apartment building that’s bereft of small children. Actually buying groceries instead of breaking down and ordering Seamless. Flagging down a taxi in the rain without throwing yourself into oncoming traffic.

However, it seems one challenge New York women have no problem with is correctly dressing for the weather. Take a look below to see how these NYC natives beat the heat.

1. It’ll be a dark and terrible day when rompers go out of style. They’re such effortless pieces that look good no matter whether you’re day drinking or aimlessly wandering around the city enjoying the weather and possibly a soft pretzel.

I love how she’s rocking metallic espadrilles, a fringe bag and retro-inspired sunglasses for a bohemian-chic look that meshes well with her “bitch, please” attitude.

2. Maxi skirts and dresses are out with a vengeance this summer, and this girl has embraced the trend with feminine pleats and pops of color. Combined with the messenger bag and a loose hairstyle, she seems genuinely relaxed and capable of surmounting any obstacle in her way whether it be an ex or the siren call of happy hour.

3. This look clearly took some PREPeration. (It’s okay I hate me too.)

I love how she accented a fairly simple silhouette with classic Ray Bans, diamond studs, an oversized watch and stylish yet comfortable sandals. This is a timeless and sophisticated ensemble that can easily transition to a nighttime look with heels and a Chuck Bass look-alike by her side.
