Fashion Week has evolved to include individual events that include a fashion show or presentation of a collection, along with musical performances. The VFILES runway show epitomized this trend because it was a fashion experience. Featuring the work of three emerging designers, Snow Xue Gao, Daniëlle Cathari and Strateas Carlucchi, the show sprinkled in dancing and musical performances by Joey Purp opening, Brenmar as DJ, and 21 Savage.
Even before the show began, there were live streamed performances including, Zara Larsson, Playboi Carti & Lil Uzi Vert, Cardi B, and Lion Babe. The runway show followed with collections by the winning designers who were chosen by the VFILES team and a celebrity panel, including, designer, Tommy Hilfiger, make-up artist, Pat McGrath and Rihanna’s stylist, Mel Ottenberg.
For the designs by Snow Gue Gao, the Sassoon Team, led by Creative Director, Michael Forrey, developed an androgynous, yet sophisticated look. The hair was pulled back into a slick ponytail along with a boyish faux fringe bang, and an elegant sumo-knot. This style blended well with the collection that was infused with menswear styles and Asian inspired fabrics and pieces.
The hair for Daniëlle Cathari’s collection was created with precise middle parts, coupled with sleek, straight-edged ends to complement the sporty, yet feminine, athleisure designs on the runway.
Strateas Carlucchi’s designs were inspired by a lived-in look, and the hair was created to achieve the same style. Davines This is An Invisible Serum was lathered on the roots leaving the hair with an easy, lived-in look.
