Valentine’s Day, It’s the most romantic day of the year, or so they say. It is my belief that the most romantic times are the ones that you make special, the ones that are unique and only yours. So this year, I’m sharing my idea of the best way to make Valentine’s Day your own: with your clothes. You’d be surprised how often clothes act as the catalyst for a trip down memory lane, taking you back to some place or time that makes you smile when you think about it. For instance, you and your significant other are reminiscing about a particularly happy moment from when you first met, and he reminds you by saying, “I remember how beautiful you looked in that little red bikini….”. Then you quickly remember and say, “Was it the Pucci bikini or the Michael Kors? Oh, I think is was the Pucci…”, and then you go into a blissful spiral of memories. The point is clothes can make any ordinary moment extraordinary, especially on Valentine’s Day. Make it special by choosing something that will stand out and remind you of this unforgettable day. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
For an elegant, decadent night out, wear a festive red dress, like this one from ABS by Allen Schwartz found at Bloomingdales for $330. The girly, romantic dress would be perfectly balanced with a more masculine boyfriend blazer, like this wonderful black velvet one from Gap, a great find at only $89.99. Then top it off with a statement bag and sky-high black pumps for that extra edge, such as these Charles by Charles David pair found at Piperlime.com for $125.
If you’re planning something classic for Valentine’s Day, try wearing a traditional style with a twist, and splurge a little for the romantic night, with this Alexander Wang tailored dress with draped satin from Barney’s Co-op, for $735. Make your legs look miles long by pairing the dress with platform pumps in nude to complete the classic look. These Sam Edelman slingback pumps, called “Novato”, are sexy yet the neutral color makes them understated and chic. Find them at Bloomingdales for $99.
If you’re on a budget this Valentine’s Day but still want to impress your date, H&M and Zara are good places to check out for chic and sexy finds. Mix it up with a pair of black trousers that hit just above the ankle like this pair from Zara for a steal at $19.99. Match them with a silk blouse such as this Zara printed one for $19.99 or a lightweight tee topped with a leather jacket and heels and you will have an effortlessly chic look for the special night. You will be sure to catch the eye of your special someone wearing one of these looks this Valentine’s Day.
