A loving re-worked version of the 1950’s perfume Calypso, from Robert Piguet, doesn’t disappoint. Perfumer Aurelien Guichard pays respect to the classic and lovingly recreates the extinct vintage scent.
This is no shrinking violet and is pure seduction and power. Opening notes of geranium and mandarin settle in and get to the heart of rose and iris; and then a heady finish of patchouli, amber and suede kept me intrigued for hours. Like all Piguet scents, it’s housed in high quality opaque black glass which keeps out light and helps maintain the integrity of the ingredients. Calypso is for a person who appreciates the art of perfume and all the elements that go into it.
Last year’s perfume hit, L’eau Ambree by Prada comes in a hip new clip-on carry about. The small gold toned bottle clips on your jeans, belt or favorite Prada handbag, and comes with two extra refills. Fragrance lovers, like me, will enjoy that the gold “label” on the bottle lists the perfume notes. The fragrance, created by Daniela Andrier, is a beautiful amber blend that lasts long and smells sweetly divine from the first opening notes of mandarin and citron to the mid notes of may rose, gardenia and jasminoides to the final notes of oppoponax and amber. If you buy for someone as a gift, you’ll want to get one for yourself too or you’ll be jealous!

The new Pure DKNY fragrance from Donna Karan is like a drop of vanilla in water. The vanilla is sourced from a women’s agriculture project in Uganda that partners with CARE and teaches women how to run a business. Additionally, the packaging is recyclable. Kudos to Donna for all that!
Inside is a vanilla based scent that goes on with a really “clean” top note. It then wears down to sweet vanilla and with a powdery dry down. It’s a casual fragrance that you’d enjoy while lying on the couch reading a book, or a Sunday afternoon brunch.
This time of year, it’s good to take a little time to relax and do a little self pampering. Turn your daily shower or bath into something other than just a “hurry and get clean” experience. The new Jasmin Noir Bath Collection from Bulgari is your perfect partner in this endeavor. The Bar Soap lathered nicely and cleansed my skin without drying it out, and the rich Body Cream moisturized, softened, and stayed on my skin delightfully giving off a hint of its presence from time to time.
Like the perfume of the same name, the key fragrance is Sambac jasmine, but here combined with a satin almond accord and some notes of precious woods. The scent is a feminine combination that starts off fresh and gets warmer and deeper as the day…or night…wears on.
