Fragrance

French textile house Manuel Canovas has introduced a quintet of opulently fine fragrances, called Les Fantaisies Parfumees that are as luxe as the company’s fabric heritage. The company is setting a new standard for high-end fragrancing. Canovas was inspired to create the scents after travels through a variety of exotic locales, such as the Mediterranean, the Orient, remote Mexican areas and the French Provence. L’Ile Bleue invokes the isle of Capri, thanks to its fruity notes of Sicilian Mandarin, Florida Oranges and Russian sage while Route Mandarine culls inspiration from Canova’s love for Japanese watercolor by incorporating Madagascar clove, Ivory Coast Citron and white musk. Pink Riviera sparkles with Wild Mint and Egyptian jasmine, swirling exotic auras with a summery, St. Tropez. Ballade Verte is modern and earthily urban, with Chinese ginger, Virginia cedarwood and tree sap notes. The beachy Anse Turquoise could be your quintessential summer scent, with spicy yet playful notes of Greek grapefruit, vanilla cloves and Sicilian citron. Available: http://www.canovasfragrance.com and select department stores.

Tom Ford may be transitioning to film as a director this year – his debut feature is called A Single Man and centers on a gay college professor and stars Julianne Moore and Colin Firth. But the fabulous Ford further leaves his mark on the sumptuous beauty and fragrance world. Tom Ford Private Blend Champaca Absolute is a unisex scent containing notes of cognac and Tokaji Wine; it’s sweet without being sticky or cloying. It’s almost like a port wine, thanks to its lingering and leathery, yet honeyed aura. While unisex fragrances are hard to pull off, especially when sweetened with amber, Champaca Absolute wins us over and is utterly wearable for ladies and gentlemen; and the scent lasts for hours without waning. Available: Bergdorf Goodman and http://www.bergdorfs.com.

Spring and summer are the prime seasons for floral scents and Crazy Libellule and the Poppies comingles orange, plum, rose of May and bush peach flesh in an aura that smells like fresh, ripe spring air was captured in its bottle. You might even want to stock up on this scent for the cold months of next fall when you yearn for those long-gone days of spring….but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Most NYC-ites are always on the go, moving and shaking. Therefore, a mini, potent portable is a “must have” for your handbag or tote. Banana Republic’s Alabaster, a nose tickling floral fusing wild musks and natural florals like wild rose and and lotus flower, serves such a purpose. It’s a light, warm-weather friendly scent that never clings thanks to its lighter, always wearable composition. The dab and dash lifestyle has never smelled so good. Available exclusively at Banana Republic locations and http://www.bananarepublic.com.
