Fragrance

By Nicole Cornella

It’s the last thing we do before heading out the door for the day. Or it’s the finishing touch before guests arrive at your home. Fragrance: a mist of perfume, lighting a candle or a simple home fragrance spray. It adds character to any individual and makes a home feel inviting. And, with October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, there lie many products that all serve a charitable purpose and fragrance is no stranger. So why not give yourself or your home a spritz knowing you’re spraying with a purpose?

For the body:

The type of fragrance that one chooses usually says a lot about their character and personality and with the endless number of fragrances stock piled in department stores, it is nearly impossible to choose one that defines you. This October, two unique, and both very different fragrances have chosen to take part in a fight for a cure.

Donna Karan Cosmetics is one of the many fragrance lines this October to offer a limited edition product to aid in the fight against breast cancer. Donna Karan’s Cashmere Mist Eau de Parfum Spray is an ultra-feminine scent that truly allows you to feel as though you are embraced in the gentleness of luxurious cashmere. The eau de parfum spray combines the essences of Moroccan Jasmine, Lily of the Valley, Bergamot and has a rich background of Sandalwood, Amber and Musk allowing the senses to be engaged in both warmth and femininity. Each bottle of Cashmere Mist includes a pink ribbon deco on both the bottle and outside packaging. Donna Karan Cosmetics will make a donation of $15,000 in connection with the sales of the limited edition fragrance to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation during the month of October. Retail is $90 for a 3.4 fl. oz bottle sold at Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s.

From ultra-feminine to edgy and attitude-driven, Pinkitude No. 1 by Demeter is a fragrance that is all about the wearer and less about the designer. Pinkitude No.1 opens with the scents of Bergamot and fresh peach finishing with Patchouli and luxurious, rare woods, giving the fragrance a more masculine cologne aroma. Twenty percent of all proceeds from Pinkitude (how adorable is that!) are donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure to end the fight against breast cancer. A 1 oz. bottle of Pinkitude No. 1 by Demeter retails for $25 and is available at http://www.DemeterFragrance.com.

For the Home:

From candles, to room sprays to diffusers, home fragrance is the finishing touch for any room setting. It allows rooms to feel fresh and inviting.

Altru, is a collection of luxury, lifestyle products that is bound to provide warmth and appeal to any home. Altru’s latest product in home fragrance, Appreciation, is inspired by the tiare flower, a type of gardenia that is native to the island of Tahiti, and white freesia. The floral infusions of Tahitian tiare and daffodil buds with the petals of white freesia leave the room feeling fresh and clean. Appreciation comes in three fabulous aromatic fashions: Aromatic Soy Blend Candle, Interior Fragrance Oil Diffusers and Incense Sticks, each leaving the room filled with floral essences. Each product is beautifully packaged and will look nice in your living room, bedroom or bathroom. Through the purchase of Appreciation products, proceeds benefit In a Perfect World, a non-profit organization that aims to inspire and empower children to become compassionate, socially conscious and responsible leaders. Available at Bergdorf Goodman, Henri Bendel and ABC Carpet & Home prices ranging from $15-$65.

Decadence at its best! There is nothing better than walking into a home or apartment with the sweet aroma of fresh baked cookies or vanilla. Even better? Candles you can light that emit that sugary scent. From Noodle & Boo comes Glowology, a signature scent of sugar and honey, meaning “the art of celebrating the beauty in every woman.” During the month of October, you can light up your home with the Love Light Candle in this signature scent with 50% of all proceeds from the sale benefitting The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The candle is encased in a glass holder with the Glowology logo and pink design and its subtle scent adds a touch of sweetness to any room. Perfectly priced at $24, Love Light candles can be found at Gracious Home, Bergdorf Goodman or http://www.noodleandboo.com.

In my opinion, nothing beats the natural, herb and aromatic scents that exude from all the bath and body products we use. Thistle Farms, a non-profit business operated by the women in a residential community in Nashville, Tennessee, uses all the fragrances we know and love and provides wonderful products benefiting an extraordinary cause. From hand lotion and soap to room sprays and lip balms, Thistle Farms uses all natural ingredients in their scented treasures. All sales proceeds go back into supporting women in the community who are recovering from sexual abuse, violence, and life on the streets. The women of the community also create the bath and body products by hand.

The All-Natural Room Spray from Thistle Farms is a simple way to revive any room and is an excellent alternative to heavy, chemical sprays. The room spray, along with most of the other products from Thistle Farms, are available in Lavender, Rose Grapefruit, Citrus Vanilla, Tea Tree Mint and Tuscan Earth. A 4 oz. bottle room spray retails for $15 and is available at http://www.thistlefarms.org.
