Hair Care

Always on the hunt for the latest in hair care, I was thrilled when Alterna gave me the opportunity to try out a few of its new products. My first thought? If it’s good enough for co-owner and spokesperson Katie Holmes (who certainly has an enviable head of hair), then it’s good enough for me to try!

A little bit of background: Founded in 1997, Alterna believes you shouldn’t have to choose between salon-tested results and good-for-you ingredients. All high-performance Alterna products are bottled in eco-friendly packaging and are free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates and other harsh additives. The products I tried were:

Caviar: Perfect Texture Finishing Spray

I’m one of many women looking for the perfect product to achieve a look that says, “Oh this? This just happened. Naturally.” I might have found it in Alterna’s Caviar Texture Spray.

Hailed as the “love-child of dry shampoo and hairspray,” it gave my hair texture and body that lasted all day without leaving any sticky residue. And as a bonus, it’s formulated to combat brittle hair and breakage.

Available at exclusively at Sephora.

Caviar Repair: Split Ends Mends

Split ends have always been an issue for me, so I was particularly excited to try this split end mender. I quickly found that there’s truth behind the phrase, “A little dab will do you,” with this product! You don’t need much of this restorative treatment to start seeing results. Not only did my hair look better, but Split End Mends also helps prevent future damage.

Available at

Bamboo Volume: 2-in-1 Volumizer

What makes this product a 2-in-1 is that it can be used on damp or dry hair to achieve desired level of volume. When used on damp hair (my preferred method), it acts as a cream. On dry hair, it acts as a paste. Either way, it contains natural potent organic bamboo extract to help keep hair soft and moisturized.

Available at Sephora.
