Hair Care

By Kathryn Holl

For years shu uemura has offered innovative, highly sought-after skin care and make-up products. Now the industry pioneer has introduced a luxury hair care line available at select salons and shu uemura boutiques.

The Art of Hair line consists of shampoos, conditioners, treatments and styling products. They are specially formulated for color-treated, dry and damaged hair, and developed to prepare the hair for the “ultimate artistic expression” – styling.

The Full Shimmer Line for color-treated hair is formulated with Musk Rose Oil and is designed to cleanse and help illuminate hair while adding vibrancy and a glazed finish to hair color that is visible after each use.

The fragrance alone, Rose of Japan, is so tranquil you’ll look forward to each shower.
Moisture Velvet for dry hair is formulated with Camellia Oil, traditionally used by geishas to smooth and soften hair, is rich in essential lipids. Moisture Velvet rebalances the moisture of dry hair, smoothes the hair fiber, creates shine and is safe on color-treated tresses. Silk Bloom for damaged hair cleanses and helps strengthen the follicle and repairs the structure of the hair fiber while adding shine and body. Also safe for color treated hair, it’s formulated with Argan oil; oil from a tree grown in arid temperatures known for its repairing and replenishing properties. Products range from $40 for shampoos to $60 for masques. Worth the splurge, make these lux products last by using them every-other time you wash.

The Art of Hair also includes a collection of 10 styling products which retail for $30.

Each styling product is designed to refine, hold, shape, define, moisturize, invigorate and protect the style you create. IronDesign, a heat-protective spray made for use with styling irons, is sure to be a blockbuster. Made with Xylose sugar and Ceraminde, this spray protects hair and color while locking in curls and straight styles with a satin-smooth finish. Perfect for any holiday style, this will really save your strands from added stress caused by direct heat.

The Art of Hair line can be found at the following New York salons:
Butterfly Studio, Chris Chase, Dopdop salon, Mark Garrison and Warren Tricomi.
