Hair Care

By Kim Taylor

Whether walking down the aisle or the red carpet (or both in one year), Butterfly Studio is the place where you’ll find the perfect balance of glamour and good taste. Butterfly Studio is aptly named, since the end result is an artistic creation borne out of a scientifically precise approach. In short, when you take a chair at Butterfly Studio, rest assured that you’re in professional, capable hands ? which is absolutely cruucial to nervous brides. The Butterfly Studio also has the only deep-conditioning Kerastase treatment center in Manhattan; the other is at Fred Segal in Los Angeles.

Brides can request that the Butterfly staff come to them, which they are more than happy to do, and to cater to the extended bridal party as well. Brides initially have a consultation meeting with the Butterfly Studio staff to clarify all of their wedding-day wants and needs After that, the sky is truly the limit. Butterfly can provide gorgeous hair extensions, a range of different wedding-day “looks” from which to choose (complete with pictures), expert coloring in single process and/or highlights, flattering cuts, curls, relaxer treatments, up-dos, and the richly hydrating Kerastase treatment. Butterfly can also airbrush on make-up so that a bride looks completely flawless, with make-up that’s fixed for the ceremony, reception, dancing, and crying with joy. Bride’s can also find a perfect tiara at Butterfly, along with an assortment of amazing jewelry.

Kerastase treatments range from $25 – $40, with the added option of a 45-minute scalp massage for $100. Haircuts range from $100 to $200, and coloring ranges from $100 – $300, and straightening or curling ranges from $200 for straightening/perming to $800 for Liscio.

Other Big Day treatments provided by Butterfly Studio are manicures ($25), pedicures ($45), eyebrow shaping and coloring ($50, $10), eyelash dying ($28), make-up application ($100), make-up lesson ($150), and waxing any part of your body ($20 face-$60 for Brazilian bikini).

Butterfly Studio is light and airy with a touch of whimsy. Jars of candy sit at the reception area, bright reds and oranges cheer the spirit, and the atmosphere feels luxurious, warm, and friendly. The staff boasts the best-looking hair in Manhattan ? all heads on deck had shining hair, rich and hydrated, with gorgeous cuts, and there’s no better form of advertising. I left with a perfect cut-and-color treatment, and have since lost track of the number of compliments I’ve received as a result of my visit to the Butterfly Studio. Go there, and be transformed.

Butterfly Studio 149 Fifth Avenue 2nd floor, @ 21st Street New York, NY 10010 Ph: 212-253-2100, FAX: 212-253-2157
