Selena Gomez and her low ponytail wowed the crowd at the Teen Choice Awards, but what I love about this look is that it’s conservative enough for the office, but also fits right in at something fancier, like a wedding (you know, for those of us not going to celebrity-filled award shows).
To complement her Saint Laurent suit, Gomez turned to celebrity stylist Lona Vigi, who wanted to create a style that had a hint of bold, but was still very sweet.
“We wanted the ponytail to be an accessory to her look,” Vigi explained.
Here’s how she got the look:
To begin, Vigi prepped Gomez’s hair, misting it with an Evian atomizer.
She then worked a dime-sized amount of John Frieda Frizz Ease Original Six Effects Serum through Gomez’s hair, starting at the roots and working her way down to the ends.
To keep flyaways and baby hairs at bay, Vigi sprayed John Frieda Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier Firm Hold Hairspray while the hair was still damp. She continued to use the hairspray while blow drying Gomez’s hair on medium heat. This ensured the hair stayed back (and in place) once in the ponytail.
Vigi then clipped the hair up and went over small sections with a flat iron, getting as close to the scalp as possible.
Once finished straightening, she created a center part and gathered Gomez’s hair by the nape of her neck, securing it into a ponytail. She finished up by patting John Frieda Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Touch-Up Creme into the ponytail to keep it looking extra strong and shiny.
The final touch? A long, black ribbon for a little extra drama.
