In Chelsea, where style and art are often synonymous, I recently visited the new Ammon Carver Studio. Set in a cast iron building on 17th street, the hybrid salon/studio was founded by celebrity stylist Ammon Carver to pursue his dual passion for beauty and photography. While you are there, notice how novel hair looks being created and then captured on camera in another part of the salon. It serves as a reminder that in Chelsea, capital of the art world, hair professionals are total artists.
Ammon Carver has had a long career as a top stylist. His work has been featured on the pages of top magazines including Vogue, Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar and he is the stylist of choice of celebrities like Kirsten Dunst, Kate Beckinsale, Amanda Seyfried, Molly Sims and Leighton Meester. His New York career began at the Warren-Tricomi Salon in the Plaza Hotel, then Mizu Salon. He later became artistic director at Matrix, a division of L’Oreal but today Carver is creative director for L’ANZA Healing ColorCare, a Los Angeles based collection of luxury sustainable hair products to perfect color care.
I came to the salon to heal my hair and get it colored. I am an avid swimmer, hitting the pool several times a week, and my hair exposes all the typical traits of dryness, color fading and chlorine damage that one associates with a pool. I was the ideal candidate to try the new L’ANZA Healing ColorCare collection.
Founded in 1985, L’ANZA has mastered the care of damaged hair to the point of being able to heal any hair thanks to a flower shield complex, a blend of anti fade compounds naturally found in flowers that bound with Keratin and triple UV protectors extend color 107% longer. Carver, who has treated many damaged manes, was curious to see how the collection would serve my pool damaged, dried out “green” hair.
Before Carver applied a medium dark shade, he sprayed my hair with L’ANZA ColorCare Attach Step 1. This treatment equalizes the porosity of the hair to allow better coverage and increase color density. After the color had set in, my hair was washed at the sink by Mirzah Batanovic, another very talented stylist in the salon. The Healing ColorCare Color Preserving Shampoo used felt gentle on my hair with its sodium chloride free formula. He applied a few drops of Healing ColorCare Trauma Treatment to restore health to my over processed hair and improve color attachment. In the end, Batanovic added L’ANZA ColorCare Attach Step 2, a post-color treatment to seal in the color pigments even better.
Carver recommended that I use L’ANZA’s Healing ColorCare Color Guard from now on before going in the water to restructure the protective layers of my hair destroyed by the oxidative hair coloring chemicals. Water is also responsible for 70% of all hair color fading. Since a component in the lotus flower repels water, this product can impede color loss from shampoo and water and allow hair color to extend more than twice as long.
After fifteen days, my color still holds strong without any degradation or fading. No matter how many times I dip my head in a swimming pool a week, the color looks as luscious and alive as when I left the salon. I really enjoyed my visit at the Ammon Carver Studio. Not only did my hair look terrific when I left but I felt I received a real education about hair healing. Give L’ANZA Healing ColorCare collection a try or visit the salon to heal and beautify your hair for fall. You will not be disappointed!
