With all the holiday sweets and treats put away (or, um, eaten), it’s time to get back on track and hit the gym. Fortunately, keeping it cute at the gym – and namely, keeping your hair in check – has never been easier. Arm yourself with these tips, tricks and tools to ensure that your post-workout look won’t give you a reason to skip that workout.

Look the Part

The first step in looking good at the gym is to find a style that’s not just fun, but functional. A traditional high ponytail or braid is a sleek look that keeps the hair out of the way and off the neck. No-tug ribbon hair ties, like those at Sephora, are the perfect accessory to keep your look secure without leaving the dreaded crease.

Have shorter hair that can’t be pulled back? Try a one-sided side braid. Part your hair slightly off-center and grab a front portion. Divide the hair into three sections and get your braid on. When finished, keep the braid pulled back by securing it to other hair with a barrette, like the Goody Contour Clip. Its snug fit will keep your braid in place. Preserve that Blowout

No need to let a fresh blowout keep you from a great workout. According to Edward Tricomi of Warren-Tricomi Salons, a resourceful way to keep your hair out of your face and maintain your blowout during/after a workout is to cut a piece from the leg from a pair of black, opaque stockings to make a headband. Use some of the remaining fabric to tie the hair back into a ponytail. The material won’t leave an indentation in your hair and will absorb any perspiration at the hairline. Genius!
