Hair Care

For a long time, Philip B has been known as a Hollywood hair celeb in his own right, taking care of some of Tinseltown’s most highly valued coifs. But over here in NYC, we’re more interested in the Philip B we can get our hands on: the product lines, that is.

The stylist’s new collection, the Oud Royal collection, part of his self-titled line, was created to help cure over-processed and damaged hair; the kind he has encountered among his celeb clientele over the years. Even those who were using the most luxurious products (and let’s be real, they surely all splurging on the best of the best), couldn’t seem to shake the hair damage inflicted by their high aesthetic demands of their professions.

Examining their formulas, Philip B realized that many top-rated and high-priced shampoo brands were often little more than detergent (i.e. water and soap), and that conditioners too were often not much more than wax weighing down hair without a remedy for the problems at the core. He launched his line almost 20 years ago, with remedies made out of essential oils, botanicals and chemical formulas that are meant to heal, nourish and deeply revive hair. Now, with his latest addition, the Philip B® Oud Royal Forever Shine Shampoo and Conditioner with MegaBounce, he’s hoping his longtime fans and newbie followers aren’t disappointed.

I certainly wasn’t. The products feature a patent-pending technological formula that consists of an intensive hydrating complex, which releases botanical hydrators; i.e molecules tiny enough to pass through the fiber of your hair and moisturize each strand from the inside out. The formula also contains Mongogo Oil and L-Amino Acids which help revive parched strands and tame frizz without adding weight. Sweet Blue Lupine Peptides are also included to protect color.

My own hair, which is especially coarse from the abuse it takes by regular color and even more regular pool chlorine (swimmer here), looks and feels restored, with a much fiercer bounce after a run-in with Philip B’s Royal Forever therapy. The formula really works to penetrate the hair shaft and lock in moisture without dulling the shine or color. I noticed it is important to let the nourishing moisture sink in for at least a minute when shampooing, and same went for the conditioner, which benefited from being left in a few minutes before rinsing.

The Philip B OUD Royal Forever line is available at and fine salons and department stores worldwide.
