Hair Care

By Patricia Wersinger

Renowned hairstylist and founder of the Roy Teeluck Salon in New York City has opened the doors of his new salon, and we’re happy to have snuck an early look inside its doors. Previously situated above the Four Seasons Hotel, the glamorous salon is now conveniently nestled between Yves Saint Laurent, Prada and Chanel on one of the most fashionable corners of Manhattan.

The impeccably designed new salon is comfortable and airy with natural sunlight, elegant stations and peaceful alcoves. A haven of beauty and talent, stylists offer individual attention and exceptional service. I had the privilege of getting my hair blow dried by Roy Teeluck himself whose pliant, youthful bangs’ deep luster could be the best advertisement for his own genius – hair lush with moisture, texture and the juiciness of health. I noticed the same vibrancy in the exquisitely cut hair of all the clients leaving the salon. There is definitely something good going on in here, I thought.

Teeluck started his career 25 years ago in the suburbs of London where he grew up. He quickly moved to Paris where he became notorious for creating sexy styles that worked with hair’s natural texture rather than against it. In 1989, Roy moved to the states, to New York and then Los Angeles where local celebrities immediately sought him after. Still today, Roy and his staff continue to style the Oscar Fashion Preview – apropos as we met just weeks before the big red carpet event. In 2003, Roy Teeluck Salon first opened its doors in New York fulfilling a long cherished dream he had to open a salon that embraced all the aspects of beauty and assembled the best talent from around the world.

As he styled my hair, Teeluck, who is very down to earth and amicable, gave me a lot of advice to improve my hair’s texture as it suffers from chronic dehydration. He applied a deep moisturizing treatment and recommended applying conditioning masques regularly and doing Keratin treatments more often to add suppleness and shine. He showed me the proper way to blow dry too and advised against ironing and straightening, but rather to work with its natural wave.

By the time I was ready to leave, I was made well aware by my own experience and my observations that whoever you are, the staff at Roy Teeluck treats you courteously and with lots of attention to your needs and preferences. It helps that you’re treated to a delicious cappuccino or tea while you wait. I looked like a star with a gorgeous and vibrant bounce when I left the salon, but this seemed just like the regular fare at Roy Teeluck’s judging from everyone I saw arriving and leaving during my visit. No wonder Roy keeps receiving accolades and that he is a mainstay in Allure magazine’s “Best of the Best Directory.” The salon’s new location may help to bolster that rep even more – we’ll just have to wait and see what’s next for Teeluck.
