Hair Care

By Kim Taylor

Takamichi Hair is a thoroughly warm and welcoming place, where you can receive expert cut and color treatments in an atmosphere with a relaxed, downtown vibe. Founded in 2000 with an “art meets precision” Japanese approach, Takamichi Saeki’s eponymous salon, now located on the LES, is noted for its signature techniques that enable hair to grow back into a style that retains your look and renders you content for weeks after your appointment. Hair color techniques are given equal thought, matching color to style, natural hair color patterns, and personal preference. Most of all, the hair artisans at Takamichi match your unique cut and color to your lifestyle.

I began my Takamichi Hair experience in Senior Colorist Simone Mangano’s chair, a veritable color guru who understands the science inherent in hair color, and an all-around creative person. With a background in theater as well, her A-list clients include luminaries in the realms of film, music, advertising, editorial and theater. By the time I left the salon with color perfectly matched to my lifestyle, I knew why Simone had cultivated her legion of devotees: she’s amazing, and a pro. She told me where my hair color was strongest and where it was fading, and colored accordingly. She gave me numerous tips that covered everything from vitamins to covering gray hairs, and I left feeling as though I had learned something wile transforming my color into something more vibrant and rich.

For a cut, I then found myself in Senior Stylist Cristin Armstrong’s chair and capable hands. She worked so quickly and masterfully that watching her scissors fly about was like watching a magic show or a concert pianist: she made it look easy, which takes years of work to achieve. The result was precisely the cut I had envisioned, which did grow out perfectly, and was the most flattering for my face type. Easygoing and soft-spoken, Cristin listens intently to her clients and matches her cut to their style and more general lifestyle, face shape and length, and preference. Her cuts are tailored to your desire, so you absolutely cannot go wrong in her hands.
