If you flew into a panic when the A-K-S Madison Salon closed for renovation, rest assured that it’s now open in time for holiday coiffing. Salon Director Mika Rummo is part magician, part hairdresser, as she and her warm, mega-friendly staff transform one look into another with finesse and artfulness. I went to her with shoulder-length hair, which she immediately pointed out was doing little for my cheekbones or neck. Unexploited assets? I agreed to a short cut on the spot, and she never gave me cause to look back. In fact, she provided cause for celebration, since my new style is versatile, pixie-like, and far more flattering.
The transformation from duckling to swan began with a complementary beverage and a stack of fresh-on-the-newsstand magazines. The salon’s renovation left it with a bright luster enhanced by enormous, sun-drenched windows (unfair temptation alert: they all face Hermes) and newly painted walls. The entire space is open, clean, sunny and simple, and the floors have been rebuffed as well. Don’t wait – book at Salon AKS now, and then show up for turkey time with tresses that send snooty cousins gasping with envy! Haircuts range from $100-$200, and bridal parties are more than welcome. Color, deep-conditioning and other hair care services are available, with more information to be found at www.salonaks.com.
