Hair Care

By Kim Taylor

The Eva Scrivo Salon is a full-service salon with an ardently loyal clientele, and it’s a remarkably solid source for professional coloring. Colorist Antonio Gonzales is balayage wizard who can expertly assess proper color corrections and the perfect placement of nuanced, gossamer highlights. He’s more than willing to share his vast store of coloring tips with us.

According to Gonzales, balayage is ideal for subtle shading and highlighting, and foil is best utilized for a broader swath of color or more dramatic effect. After coloring, it’s prudent to wait three days before shampooing in order to preserve a richness of color and allow the color to permeate the hair shafts (if you can!). Avoiding shampoos and conditioners with harsh, inexpensive ingredients and chemicals is another way to milk more mileage out of your color. Also, protect your hair from too much sun or chlorine exposure, and to reapply color every six weeks. The salon sells a wide array of recommended hair products, as well and luxurious headbands and other hair-related products.

The eponymous Eva Scrivo Salon uses Wella, Goldwell, Alfa Parf, L’Oreal, and Herbatint color lines, and guarantees your happiness – or the results will be fixed to satisfaction. The staff is friendly, chic and warm, and the west village location is charming. The elegant Eva Scrivo is on hand to over see and welcome, and client comforts and amenities are plentiful. Visit this proficient, memorable salon for your next coloring – you won’t regret it. In fact, you’ll probably write us to say, “Thank god I found Antonio!”

The Eva Scrivo salon is located at 632 Hudson Street, between Jane and Horatio Streets. Call 212-677-7315 for an appointment (recommended), and visit for more information.
