Hair Care

By Amy Sciaretto

Summer is coming, and with it, humidity. Which can do a number on your hair, no matter what the length, texture, or style it is. In preparation for summer, and in conjunction with our “nude” issue, here are a few easy, no fuss, wash ‘n go styles for hair of all shapes and sizes.

If you have long hair that takes a half hour to dry, here’s how to get cascades of waves;

Wash your hair before you go to bed. Towel dry your hair as much as possible. Separate into 2 sections. Create two thick braids on each side of your head. Go to sleep. When you wake up, shake out the braids, and viola! You’ll have tousled, loose ‘n beachy waves.

Don’t feel like blowdrying, especially on a sweltering day? No problem. After washing, try a wet-to-dry flat iron, which dries and straighten in one fell swoop, something we never thought was scientifically possible. We recommend the T3 Tourmaline Flat Iron (available at, which absorbs excess water, allowing it to evaporate through high tech vents. The result? High gloss hair in half the time.

Got a curly mane with a mind of its own? Short on time to tend to your tendrils? Here’s a no hassle tip: Wash hair, wrap in a towel turban until 80% of the moisture is absorbed. You can put on your moisturizer and your make up, and make the bed, while your hair dries. Ditch the towel, shake out your hair, dab in a light touch of mousse, and let the rest air dry. You’ll be left with touchable, soft ringlets.

Rocking the shag? Or close-cropped locks? Lucky you – your hair is the epitome of wash ‘n go. If you want to use one product after you’ve jumped outta the shower, try Jonathan Product Dirt Texturizing Paste (available at Sephora,, for $26), a thick paste with an almond scent that creates a disheveled, next-day look.

The old reliables:
Thin black headbands not only pull the hair off your face, but harness unruly curls and provide a little volume at the crowns of straight haired grrls.

High ponytails are also sleek and chic, perfect for a day at the office or a night on the town.
Lastly, if you’re feeling uber femme, tie your hair in two thick braids, wrapping a clear hair band about an inch from the ends of your hair. It’s pretty without being pre-teen. Now, take these tips, go forth, and style!
