“Bridal boot camps” are literally popping up all over the country. The idea is intense training classes for brides and their bridal parties to shape up in preparation for the big day. After all, what is more important to the bride than looking and feeling fantastic on this special occasion? Well, other than getting married, of course.
In Beverly Hills, one such boot camp has caused quite a buzz around town.
L.A.’s popular fitness columnist from Inside Weddings magazine and one of Southern California’s top personal trainers, Doug Rice, better known as “The Wedding Trainer”, leads his cleverly named Bridal Boot Camp 90210. As Doug explains, “Training my brides is like training an Olympic ice skater or a marathon runner. We must train with laser-like focus to peak on that one, all-important day . . . and I love it!”
His highly popular, 60-minute total body workout is chockfull of innovative and challenging exercises that will give you the workout of your life. Heather McDaniels, a boot camp participant, enthusiastically exclaims, “Doug makes the workout hard, but he keeps me motivated — his boot camp rocks!”
One of the best perks about Bridal Boot Camp 90210 is the location. When you join your fellow brides-to-be for this exciting group exercise class, it is in no less than the beautiful Loews Beverly Hills Hotel with a breathtaking view of the city.
Brides are not the only ones getting in on the act; bridesmaids and mothers of the brides are joining the group too. One of the mothers said, “I love the drills. We’re running around cones, jumping over stuff, or tossing that darn medicine ball, but he makes it fun. I’ve never done anything like this before, I never thought I could!”
The Boot camp is a group program but all participants get a one-on-one consultation to assess their individual fitness and conditioning levels. The consultation also includes outlining specific fitness goals. The client is given an overview of what they can look forward to, in terms of achievement, over the following weeks as they work hard to reach their objectives.
The camp includes activities such as resistance training, obstacle courses, and running. And, of course, what boot camp would be complete with “drop down and give me 20!”
Bridal Boot camp 90210 inspired me to start a similar camp in New York City. After observing and participating in the 90210 boot camp, I knew I wanted to bring my own version to the Big Apple.
Together with my boxing coach, King Feliciano, I am starting our own New York Bridal Boot Camp in May, just in time for the summer and fall weddings! It will take place outdoors, in midtown, near the East River. No two classes will be the same. Our camp will be using many similar techniques, exercises, and maneuvers as the L.A. camp, but we are adding boxing drills to the existing mix.
Whether you are a novice or a veteran, the boot camp is an incredible and fun way to get into tip-top shape before a wedding or a special event. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Recruit your friends and family for the next bridal boot camp in your area.
