New York City claims to have very clean drinking water, yet I find that most people I know use some device to filter their water. I too am one of those people that use a filtered pitcher at-home and enjoy clean filtered water. What about when you are on the go, at work or traveling, how can you enjoy filtered water without having to buy endless plastic water bottles? Well, enter Bobble, an amazing, stylish new water bottle that filters water as you drink. Bobble makes drinking clean water easy, portable, helpful for busy New Yorkers and also much better for the environment than buying new plastic water bottles. Bobble is made from recycled plastic and is free of BPA, Phthalates and PVC. Bobble retails for only $10 and the low retail price of Bobble and its filters is intended to mitigate the cost of regular bottled water consumption, which can run into hundreds of dollars annually.
Bobble was designed by renowned industrial designer Karim Rashid and features an iconic shape available in six colors: green, red, blue, magenta, black and yellow. The Bobble carbon filter requires no maintenance and only needs to be replaced every two months or after filtering approximately 40 gallons, or 150 liters, of water. Bobble is available in multiple retail outlets, including JC Penney, The Container Store, Bloomingdales and online at: http://www.waterbobble.com.

Jillian Michaels, famous for shouting contestants into shape as a strength coach on The Biggest Loser, has written her third health book, Master Your Metabolism. While she was coaching others on weight loss, Michaels was struggling with maintaining her own weight, and had to go to extremes, exercising 7-8 hours a week, eating only 1200 calories a day to maintain her shape. After going to an endocrinologist, she discovered she was suffering from hypothyroidism, a hormonal imbalance that was the cause of her weight struggle. Balanced hormone levels are key to metabolic function, and Michaels discovered that there are multitudes of dietary and environmental endocrine disrupters that cause hormonal imbalances that can lead to obesity and disease. The message that is clearly deposited foremost in readers’ minds is that our bodies are under siege and in desperate need of protection from so many harmful chemicals.
While a good portion of Master Your Metabolism reads like a biochemistry text, Michaels uses the scientific facts to illustrate the importance of adopting a healthy diet and lifestyle. She outlines a three-part plan to manage the lifestyle factors that will lead to a well-balanced metabolism: the restore, remove and rebalance plan. First, restore nutrients in the body by eating organic, whole foods and taking supplements. Second, remove toxins both by eliminating processed foods in the diet and minimizing exposure to household toxins and cigarette smoke. Third, rebalance energy created by and put out of the body by incorporating healthy habits such as getting eight hours of sleep per night, exercising intensely five hours a week and lowering stress levels. Master Your Metabolism is a great reminder of how exposure to chemicals in the food we eat and the air we breathe can have a major impact on our weight and overall health.
Master Your Metabolism is available at Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble and other places healthy living books are sold.
For some, February signals the second month of trying to keep up with New Year’s resolutions, or maybe for others who haven’t been as dedicated, a clean slate to get your healthy lifestyle on track. What better way to kick off the New Year than by resolving to better your body, health and earn some extra karma points! Whether you are a walker, beginner runner or have been running for years, consider joining Team in Training, the world’s largest endurance sports training program, which benefits The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). TNT provides professional group training to run/walk a full or half marathon, triathlon or 100-mile bike ride. As a participant, you’ll get amazing personalized one-on-one and group training for four to five months, along with race entry, lodging and airfare depending on your race, while raising funds for blood cancer research and patient services.
TNT has raised over $1 Billion for LLS and I’ve had numerous friends who have participated in their programs and have only amazing things to say afterwards. The NYC Chapter is currently open for registration for summer events until March, which includes: the San Diego Marathon & ½ to Benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society; Nautica NYC Triathlon; Lake Placid Marathon & ½; America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride in Lake Tahoe, Mayor’s Marathon & Half Marathon in Anchorage, AK and The Ride to Montauk (century bike ride).
And if coaching and cheering from teammates still isn’t enough to motivate you, every participant trains in honor of a patient battling leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma. For those with very busy schedules, there’s a new program called TNT Flex, which allows for customized online training along with team runs when possible.
