I too am one of those people that use a filtered pitcher at-home and enjoy clean filtered water. Jillian Michaels, famous for shouting contestants into shape as a strength coach on The Biggest Loser, has written her third health book, Master Your Metabolism. While she was coaching others on weight loss, Michaels was struggling with maintaining her own weight, and had to go to extremes, exercising 7-8 hours a week, eating only 1200 calories a day to maintain her shape. After going to an endocrinologist, she discovered she was suffering from hypothyroidism, a hormonal imbalance that was the cause of her weight struggle. Balanced hormone levels are key to metabolic function, and Michaels discovered that there are multitudes of dietary and environmental endocrine disrupters that cause hormonal imbalances that can lead to obesity and disease. The message that is clearly deposited foremost in readers’ minds is that our bodies are under siege and in desperate need of protection from so many harmful chemicals.

While a good portion of Master Your Metabolism reads like a biochemistry text, Michaels uses the scientific facts to illustrate the importance of adopting a healthy diet and lifestyle.
