Health & Fitness

Now that the holidays are over and your new year’s resolution is in full swing, it’s time to stop ignoring or in my case “hiding” the bulge underneath your sweater. BN has teamed up with CEO of WIN Entertainment, Darren Capik to bring you the top ten ways to get your body back in gear just in time for spring. Capik’s client roster include some of today’s most famous celebs including, Kim Kardashian, Carmen Electra, and Brooke Burke (need I say more…if I ever got the chance to clone a body it would be hers!)

Six-pack App Pro:
Finally an app I can put to use. Six-pack will have you in dire pain in no time, featuring 125 exercises divided into eight categories. Each exercise page is loaded with useful information, including tabs featuring step-by-step instructions, exercise overview information, tips, detailed muscle illustrations, and a tab that details what not to do! It also includes eight pre-configured workout routines, varying from beginner exercises to more advanced split routines and over 50,000 words of descriptive exercise text.

Authentic Yoga:
Brought to you by one of the most respected and innovative leaders in alternative medicine, Deepak Chopra, the app focuses primarily on Raja yoga, a branch of yoga that focuses heavily on meditation (this app is a combination of Hatha/Raja styles). Other main sections of Authentic Yoga include Learn to Practice, Yoga Routines, and Review Poses. The best part about the Learn to Practice section is not only does it teach basic yoga poses and positions, but it identifies poses for specific ailments like tight hamstrings, tight hips, or for building balance, and decreasing stress.

Lose It!
This app is stacked with goods. You can set goals and establish a daily calorie budget that enables you to meet them. Stay on track each day by recording your food intake, total calories consumed and exercises completed to get a full count of whether or not you’re on the right track. You can enter food and exercise easily using a searchable database and it even allows you to quickly re-enter foods and meals you’ve had in the past.
With this app you’re not alone. Not that we suggest starting a support group, but wouldn’t it be nice to have a motivator to keep you going! i.e. the buddy system. Here you can setup motivators to help keep you on track and use detailed online reports to track your progress.

The average Lose It user loses 12.3 pounds and results have been proven to show within just four weeks. Sign me up!

Run Keeper:
I’m not exactly an avid runner. In fact, I am really more of an elliptical kind of gal, but this app is packed with everything a serious runner would need. It can be used for running, cycling, and other fitness activities. Run Keeper uses the GPS technology found in the iPhone to track your fitness activity, giving you comparable results to an expensive GPS watch. Now, you can also enter your activities manually, including your treadmill runs too. The intuitive and easy-to-use interface of the app makes it user friendly and supportive. You can even get motivational insight while you are doing your activities on whether you are ahead/behind your target pace.

Pocket Trainer:
Similar to Nike Training Club this app also offers a trainer—hence the name. Pocket Trainer uses high quality videos, telling you what to do, when and how to do it. The app offers a completely personalized program tailored to your individual needs and goals. Most people who already exercise only perform exercises they are familiar and comfortable with or ones they enjoy. This almost always creates imbalance in the program and allows you to change up your routine frequently.

You can set up your user profile, pick the time you have available, place, and equipment and PT will create a balanced program. PT has over 300 exercises which all have videos, written descriptions, movement speed , and rest periods, which are timed for you after each set. PT also allows you to refer to your work out history so you can easily view your progress.
