Living in a big city like New York, one of the side effects of having the privilege of being in the world’s capital is the daily amount of stress that we are so often faced with. Stress can be good when it motivates us to act quickly, but it can also create anxiety, increase hormonal imbalances, and lead us to a pervasive sense of feeling like we are exhausted and slowly spiraling out of control.
I have discovered several Indian herbs and the secret of Ayurvedic medicine. Its simple recipe for a balanced and satisfying life is based on meditation, self-nurturing, proper diet, and the use of herbs and plants for healing the body and soul.
Vital Lady has become my ultimate essential go to product. For me, a typical New York woman dealing with multiple functions rather than coping by injecting high doses of caffeine into my body and multiple glasses of red wine to unwind at night, I now take this supplement. Not only is it more economical than spending $5 on a cup of coffee from Starbucks, but I feel just as energized, stronger and much less exhausted.
This formula contains various minerals and herbs including, Mineral Pitch, Asoka Tree, Lodh Tree, Red Saunders, Mesua, Eclipta, Spiked Ginger Lily, Turmeric, Indian Jalap, designed to work synergistically to heighten serotonin levels, cleanse blood, balance hormones and support you to hold your own. This product is like a strong tonic, preventing erratic thoughts or emotional vitality and emphasizing focus and satisfaction.
The herbs in Maharishi Ayurveda products are prepared using the Ayurvedic way, known as the magic of synergy. They use the entire herb and combine it with other herbs to promote greater results. This also improves assimilation, creates holistic balance, and prevents negative side effects says Alan Marks, the CEO of Maharishi Ayurveda.
Organic India, a site promoting organic Indian herbs recommended I try Joy, a product that contains organic Bacopa/brahmi leaves, Gotu Kola aerial parts, organic Shankpushpi and organic Ashwagandha Root. Brahmis, Bacopa Monieri and Centella Asiatica, as well as Ashwagandha and Shankpushpi are amongst the world’s most powerful herbs. They are neuro-protective, helping to nourish the taxed nervous system while bringing a positive interaction between the adrenergic, dopaminergic, and serotonergic systems. They promote increased circulation to the brain without adding stress to the adrenals.
I recommend it if you feel easily upset, impatient or erratic in your thoughts, unable to get through the day without caffeine and chocolate. It creates a feeling of relaxation and euphoria.
Another great stress reducer is Vitality. It contains five powerful anti-stress, anti-aging and adaptogenic herbs that help relieve low energy states. Vitality supports the immune system and provides you with increased energy and stamina. Made with Katuki herbs, it assists in reorganizing deep patterns at the organ level to increase overall well being. It really works well to help you feel more in control and at peace.
I also found peace in drinking various teas throughout the day, such as Tulsi’s Lemon Ginger to help relieve stress and revive me at the end of a long day. Tulsi is considered the Queen of Herbs in India as it is infused with healing powers.
I found it effective to use all these herbs on a rotating schedule, as I noticed that it increases their individual efficiency. Alan Marks, the CEO of Maharishi Ayurveda recommends that I practice Transcendental Meditation on a daily basis as it has been proven by hundreds of scientific studies to be highly effective in reducing mental, physical, and emotional stress. Though it is not something that I have even remotely envisioned doing yet, I try to spend some time every day nurturing myself by painting, cooking a healthy and balanced meal, or reading things that really stimulate and empower the mind.
Ayurveda recommends eating your biggest meal at noon rather than diner, as your body needs plenty of time to break down the food and retrieve the nutrients. This task is very difficult to do at night and explains partly why our bodies often cannot take advantage of the nutrients from the foods we eat. Life is definitely an emotional battle but Ayurvedic medicine has figured out before everyone else the natural remedies that help our constitution bring out its best.
