RYKÄ was founded in 1987 by Sheri Poe after she was unable to find an exercise shoe that would fit her correctly. She had developed lower back pain and leg problems from poorly designed sport shoes and was pretty fed up. Hence was the decision to start a company that would be committed exclusively to women’s needs in the fitness industry. Poe named the company after her grandmother’s last name. Now owned by American Sporting Goods, Poe’s original concept continues to hold strong – inspired by women for women. All RYKÄ shoes are designed and developed with a women’s unique fitting needs -narrower in the heel and wider in the forefoot.
RYKÄ footwear includes aerobics, aqua, cross-training, running, walking and yoga shoes and are one of the highest rated in the footwear industry. In my personal experience as well, RYKà„ shoes have proved to be exceptionally comfortable and durable.
RYKÄ also carries fitness apparel which combines style and function providing comfortable fit for a great workout.
RYKÄ continues to support the women’s fitness community by sponsoring events and programs that encourage all women to participate, regardless of fitness level. The company also devotes time and resources for other causes and issues that concern women.
RYKÄ is a national sponsor for the annual Avon Walk for Breast Cancer – a series of weekend fundraising events. The Avon Walk, 2005, started on the weekend of April 16-17 in Charlotte and ends on October 1-2 in New York. Women are encouraged to participate to raise awareness for Breast Cancer, while having fun and making a difference. The walk this month is in San Francisco on July 9-10.
