New York Sports Club and 77WABC radio have individually supported and sponsored many great causes throughout the years. Now they have teamed up in an effort to motivate people to get fit and in better shape. As part of this project, I have been training Jill Vitale, former producer of the Sean Hannity show on WABC radio and current producer for the John Gambling show. Jill wanted to be in better shape for the Father’s Day Prostate Cancer Run which took place last month, sponsored in part by WABC radio.
Jill wanted to show her support for a great cause. Living a healthier lifestyle assists in the prevention of many deadly diseases. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer, excluding skin cancers, in American men. It is also the second leading cause of cancer death in American men, exceeded only by lung cancer. Prostate cancer accounts for about 10% of cancer-related deaths in this population group. Approximately one out of five men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime and one out of thirty-three will die of this disease. The American Cancer Society estimates that during 2005 about 232,090 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed in the United States. A little over 1.8 million men in the United States are survivors of prostate cancer.
Jill didn’t want to stop training after the run. She and a fellow co-worker committed to regular workouts of strength and resistance training, along with better eating habits. Jill says that she can already feel and see a difference. She has more energy and she finds she is having an easier time running. She is more conscious about the food she eats. She has cut down, tremendously, on her sugar intake and eats more whole grain carbohydrates. Also, she only eats free-range chicken – not confined to fences, free to eat greens and insects, and without hormones and antibiotics; she also eats seafood but no red meat.
When we train, I can see her dedication and commitment. She is so excited about her progress. She, even, shares her positive results with her radio audience.
Another great cause that the station is participating in is the 3rd Annual Hannity Freedom Concert. Friday, July 8, host Sean Hannity will broadcast from Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. Proceeds of the concert go to the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund, honoring the dedication and bravery exhibited by Americans in our armed forces by providing educational scholarships to their children. For more details and information on how you can make a donation go to Freedom Alliance Website, 100 percent of all donations will be applied to the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund.
