In this month’s edition of the Beauty Insider, celebrity makeup artist and resident Beauty News columnist Kerry Malouf reveals that summer 2010 will be all about color! She worked with actress Emma Bell (www.emmabell.net) to construct this look so stunning, you’ll be picking that jaw of yours off the floor.
“Emma Bell and I had an instant soulful connection,” Malouf said. It shows from the look that Malouf created and how content and confident Emma appears!
“Summertime this year is all about color, color, color. Emma and I are both intoxicated with the color blue,” Malouf revealed. “Wearing blue helps to make easy conveyance, whether it is with yourself or others. Blue is associated with the Throat Chakra, with communication of how we feel and what we think. Blue is the color of the sky and sea. It is often associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven!” All good things, no doubt.
To create Emma’s look, Malouf worked with NARS and their “gorgeous, colorful summer collection.” The duo cream eye shadow Burn it Blue is what motivated the pair -model and makeup artisan- to stick with their love of the color as their inspiration for these photos. “The combination of aquamarine and ice blue is hard to beat,” Malouf said. “Our vision was to create an intense yet soft, colorful, ’70s vibe. Bummy, the photographer, and Tabatha Willard were both into it, so organically the shoot was an easy ride.”
Malouf admits sometimes, she loves “to skip tools entirely and use my fingers, it sometimes looks like finger painting. Anything that comes in a cream formulation practically begs to be dabbed on with fingers. Since the NARS products we used on this shoot were all cream, I used my fingers and Emma liked that.” Given the connection that the duo felt working together, it makes sense that Malouf used her hands to apply to product, since the tactility of her fingers made for better application and connectivity to her subject!
“I used COOLA face SPF 30 Organic Moisturizing Suncare to hydrate and protect her skin from the sun. Sunscreen is a trick that gives your skin that glowing look we all strive for. Then I used NARS concealer to create a perfect canvas to add color to.”
As stated, Malouf started by framing Emma’s eyes with Burn it Blue Duo Cream Eye Shadow. “The most amazing blue color duo ever” is how she described the product. From these photos, Malouf makes blue, a difficult color to pull off on the realway as opposed to photos, seem easy as a slice of lemon meringue pie in the summer.
Malouf smudged the color on the top and bottom of Emma’s eyes. “Then applied Individual brown eye lashes on her top lash line.” While the instinct is often to use black false lashes, the brown is softer and works in tandem with the boldness of the blue.
“I used both Turks and Caicos and Cadaques Multiple sticks on her cheeks. These colors were so pretty alone or mixed. Love these sticks!” They are multi-tasking, so if you haven’t tried them yet, what better endorsement than that of a talented makeup artist? Malouf also added Cayenne Cream Golden Brown Eye Shadow “to add a light smoke.”
Lips were topped off with Easy Lover pink gloss, which is similar in color family to the Cadaques stick.
Emma’s body was hydrated with Coola Total Body Plumeria SPF 30 Organic Moisturizing Skincare, to provide hydration and protection.
