I’m all about getting a head start on Fall, and I’m doing it with NARS Fall 2010 Collection, which is inspired by iconoclastic model/heiress/artist Daphne Guinness. The set is sultry and bold, with a focus on brights, which are going to be hot when we cool down for the Fall season. Daphne eye shadow is a deep violet that looks best when buffed to a sheer wash and it’s the hottest color for the Fall season. I also love the warm chocolate of Coconut Grove, which pairs so sexily with the soft yellow highlighter Mangrove. The Palladium Soft Touch Shadow Pencil, named after a NYC hotspot, is electric blue, so I suggest you use it as waterline eyeliner or under eye accent for a color boost.

Too Faced is offering a more subtle eye kit for the upcoming warm to cool months: the Naked EyeSoft & Sexy Eye Shadow Collection, which is a palette complete with instruction cards. It’s all nudes and neutrals, so only you will know that you are wearing eye makeup. You can play with textures in one fell swoop. The long-wearing colors can soften and enhance your natural beauty without the threat of raccoon eyes. My picks? The heathered taupe of Pillow Talk and the stormy grey of Unmentionables. You can’t go wrong with this affordably priced kit which allows for options, options, options.

Estee Lauder’s Blue Dahlia Fall Collection is all about strong, iconic, thoroughly Fall shades, like blue and violet, allowing beauty mavens to make rich and daring color choices. The Pure Color Five Color Eye Shadow Palettes in Blue Dahlia and Surreal Violet are a powerful mix of cool, mysterious shades with a theatrical bend. The true beauty of this collection lies in the mix-and-match-ability of each palette internally or with each other. Fall is going to be all about mixing neutrals and colors, and this collection is a good building block.

I know, I know. We all covet Angelina Jolie’s pillowy lips and not just because they get to smooch Brad Pitt. The closest gloss I’ve found to mimic the peachy-pink-nude shade Jolie often slicks on her lips, especially in the poster and trailer for her recently-released action-adventure Salt, is Urban Decay’s brand new, Lip Junkie gloss in Midnight Cowboy with its sheer, almost beige, pinky nude sparkle. An angled tip and squeeze tube makes application easy, breezy and mistake-proof. I also adore the neutral pink Naked. All the “cowboy” and “cowgirl” references in this month’s Best Bets are purely unintentional, FYI! This gloss, with its minty fresh flavor and butter-rich texture, could take the crown as this year’s best new lip product!

If you go nude and soft on your pout, then don’t be shy with the eye! On the complete opposite end of the Too Faced Naked Eye Soft & Sexy kit is Make Up Forever’s waterproof, ultra-pigmented Aqua Creams. These multi-tasking magicians are artistic products, but you needn’t be a makeup artist to operate this machinery, so to speak! These color concentrated creams are user-friendly, boasting elastic, long-lasting texture in vivid, vivacious hues. The sparkly, electric blue #21 is designed for the eyes and I use it as a base when I want to build blue-green smoky eye looks; the tutu pink of #5 stains lips and cheeks with just bitten flush and blush. They’re dreamy and creamy.
