NUDE Lips lip balm, encased in the line’s iconic lavender packaging, is quite possibly my favorite new colorless lip Rx. Besides the super cute cube it comes in, it’s a thick, greaseless balm. Winter 2011 was murder on my kisser, and yours, too, courtesy of merciless rain and dry, freezing air. But this balm, with its ever-so-faint vanilla scent, lent a glossy effect and ended my pucker’s parched season early.
Make Up Forever once again scores, er, shines with Lab Shine Lip Gloss. The light refracting gloss is available in three megawattage finishes and 35 shades. My personal favorite? The Diamond Collection, which is formulated with MUF’s Diamond Powder. Don’t worry about the chemistry and science behind it, just know the gloss provides natural-looking, transparent, glittery shine. D4 is a universal flattering, pink grapefruit hue that I have been wearing daily with black cat eyes; this is also a hot Spring shade that offsets the vibrant pinks we saw on runways. The Star Collection boasts mother-of-pearl finish, which I like for day, while the Metal Collection looks chromed and mirrored, for late nights in dark places.
Sun kissed skin looks good no matter what time of year, so Estee Lauder’s supremely seductive Bronze Goddess Soleil Collection for Summer 2011 will transport you and your visage to the Mediterranean even if your bank account can’t. The collection invokes sun, sand and water with its complementary shades. The collection is vast, so Beauty News chooses the limited edition ShadowStick Duos in Gold Bronze for warm tones and Pink Teal for cooler tones. Each pencil holds two, water-resistant, longwearing shades and is versatile; you can draw precise lines or smudge them out for a smoky style.
Chantecaille continues its tradition of animal-friendly initiatives with its limited edition Sea Turtle Palette. The refillable palette contain three, crease-resistant eye shadows in marine-life shades, such as sea foam green, pinky coral and sunny gold, and one cheek color. Even better, five percent of the proceeds benefit Widecast, which ensures the survival of sea turtles. Beauty News adores beauty with a conscience beyond traditional charities.
NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencils are the sister to the line’s Velvet Matte Lip Pencils. The latter pencils were primo for winter when a matte mouth fits, but as the mercury rises, a glossier, shinier, more lightweight, non-sticky formula that straddles that fine line between gloss and stick is preferred. Gorgeous – you need one for every bag: clutch, beach bag, tote, work satchel.
LORAC’s Spring Collection is following a major film trend: 3D. Multiplex 3D Lashes Mascara offers three times the volume of your regular ol’ mascara thanks to silk and keratin, which nourish and condition. Apply three coats and the false lash effect will take over. The line’s 3D Liquid Lustre top coat has a three-fold purpose; it can be applied over eye shadow to amp up your day look to evening, or it can be a cheek highlight for a prismatic sparkle. If you are going out dancing, this is your product du jour but be sure and play with it several times in advance, as it’s a semi tricky item.
The LORAC limited edition Multiplex 3D Eye Shadow Palette pits six shadows with prismatic, holographic luster together, so if you have major events where lots of photos will be taken, this wet/dry palette is all you need. Shadows can double as eyeliners and you can build intensity levels to your intended desire. You’ll love pulling the on-trend, faux animal print design out of your bag for touch ups.
I am a black eye liner enthusiast – it’s my go to, along with a pretty pink/peach/nude gloss when all else fails. I am going to make a small left turn this Spring with Givenchy’s Magic Eye Kohl in Coffee. Brown is just as mysterious and sexy, with a little more softness. Brown smoky eyes are taking over for last season’s silver and grey and this smudgeable, stay-put liner will aid in your pursuit of softer but just as sexy smoke! I also have a major crush on the Blush Gelee in Candide Pink. The aptly named gel blush formula is applied with a foam applicator and melts into your cheeks for a just-kissed flush that we all deserve to enjoy and give off daily without looking like radioactive.
For those Sunday mornings when you need to gloss ‘n’ go, Clark’s Botanicals Ultra Rich Lip Tints answer the call, treating your lips with moisture with a splash of garden-inspired color. I’ve been caught re-applying Alexandra Rose and Madge Mauve repeatedly. Guilty as charged.
