You don’t have to exchange suppleness for hue, thanks to Clinique’s Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balms, which offer a moist, matte mouth, two textures which are normally mutually exclusive. These mega-moist, creamy crayons offer the color payoff of a stain, only with more precision and plenty of smooch-worthy softness! No dryness here! You draw your preferred fruity shade -mine is the pinky-brown Whole Lotta Honey – on like a lipstick and can slick a little clear gloss; I recommmend MAC Clear Lip Glass for a long lasting depth and shine. Or wear any of the eight shades solo. The barrel is also efficient, since it is sharpener-free; you just twist the bottom to expose more balm. Woppin’ Watermelon and Chunky Cherry will please makeup minimalists, especially in warmer months.
I forego mascara on my lower lashes, simply because fat, full bristle brushes can’t reach the baby fine lashes or I wind up with the smudged, raccoon look. Clinique’s new Bottom Lash Mascara boasts the teeniest wands, which makes contact with and coats every last, hard-to-reach, delicate lash with its micro brush. A little insider’s tip: I used Benefits Bad Girl black mascara, a Holy Grail, on my top lashes and then Clinique’s Black/Brown on the bottom. It amped my eye makeup in a subtle way, without overdoing it. But the difference was immediately noticeable.
Ellis Faas Skin Veil provides soft, full coverage, like a light ‘n’ airy skin grazing veil. It’s not too heavy but still provides total coverage. Skin is illuminated, without that mask-like feel that full coverage foundations often fall prey to. If you apply with a light enough touch, it will melt into your skin and look like it is your skin. Light diffusing technology camouflages those pesky wrinkles and fine lines. Just be sure to blend, blend, blend to disperse the product evenly.
Philosophy’s Divine Illumination Eye Creams supply a Spring-appropriate wash of color to the lid. The applicator mimics a lip gloss wand, which is good for dabbing but not for blending, so I applied it over primer (Urban Decay Primer Potion or MAC Paint Pot in Painterly) and then smudged and blended liberally with my pointer finger. The shadows and shimmer blend beautifully, last without creasing and look gorgeous paired against the contrast of black kohl liner smudged at the upper lash line.
Philosphony’s Divine Illumination Cream-to-Satin Foundation is equipped with a compact brush, so you can sweep over your face and blend effortlessly till you look Photoshopped! The creamy, comfortable coverage is pillow-light, but not a single blemish will be visible to the naked eye. This is easily one of my favorite new products of 2011.
Nude lips will remain forever fashionable, just like the smoky eye. What does change, however, is the intensity and the pink-ness or brown-ness of the nude lipstick or gloss shade you choose to wear and locating the right shade can be tricky, since a too-nude lip looks washed out, chalky and unhealthy. Celeb makeup artist Lauren Napier teamed up with Three Custom Color Specialist’s Chad Hayduk to craft a universal nude. There will be no more epic, nude lipstick “FAILS!” when you slick the pinky-coral Nude Attitude across your kisser. It is truly is a “one nude fits” all hue.
Bold pouts attract stares and you can’t have flaky, chapped lips underneath all that color. The best way achieve pouty perfection? Why through preparation and priming, of course. FusionBeauty’s LipFusionXL 2X Micro-Collagen + HA Lip Contouring Pencil (with sharpener) is a chubby, clear crayon pencil that contains pure active collagen and marine micro-spheres that smooth, hydrate, plump and define leaving behind luxurious lips ready to wear the juiciest shades. You can fake the full Angelina Jolie/Jennifer Garner/Jessica Biel look with LipFusion Contouring Pencil, as it fills fine lines around the mouth, prevents any bleeding and feathering and locks in color for all day wear. I like to use this liner before applying gloss to give it something to adhere to and to enhance staying power. It’s like a lip gloss adhesive.
I am also afflicted with a major crush on FusionBeauty’s Prime ResultsTinted Moisturizer. I love two-in-one products, especially in the summer, when I want to use a minimum of products and go. This tinted moisturizer gives me just the right amount of hydration and coverage and has a built in primer. More truly is less with this divine product.
