In the past month our favorite celebrities, actresses, music artists, and fashionistas alike have strutted along the red carpet wearing this years’ must-have designer gowns. From Armani to Versace and many high-end designers in between, the award season is always filled with trend setting looks and sometimes a few “what was she thinking” pieces prone to make the worst dressed list. Fortunately, this award season showcased several great styles, which can easily be translated from formal eveningwear to chic pieces for a night on the town, a perfect date, or a stylish city soiree with friends.
Anne Hathaway, an actress growing as a respectable and versatile starlet has graced many a red carpet in chic and savvy designer gowns. At this year’s Golden Globes, Anne departed a bit from her typical demure style and pushed her personal fashion sense with an amber form fitting, beaded Giorgio Armani Prive gown embellished with Swarovski crystals. With a sheer low back and accentuated shoulders, the long sleeve gown was indeed a risk for the stars’ regular fashion image. Subtle makeup, a sleek hairdo, and accenting jewelry pulled the look together and made an otherwise daring and potentially unflattering gown stand out. To achieve this look for a less formal occasion try a beaded or shimmer mini dress without a low neckline in gray or black for a perfect party look. Alice and Olivia’s short sleeve, open back black sequin dress is a great find with a similar style to Anne’s Golden Globes gown. French Connection’s black and gray stretch sequined dress with three quarter sleeves is another fun and sexy alternative to the full-embellished designer gown. Both pieces are available at Bloomingdales.
Eva Longoria is newly single and from her Golden Globes appearance in this form fitting and elegant Zac Posen gown, the T.V. actress is making a statement in regards to moving on and looking great doing so. With a classic hourglass silhouette and just enough sex appeal, this Zac Posen full length black, trained gown with a cinched waist and an open back is flattering for many silhouettes and accentuates your curves. Donna Karan’s Cold-Shoulder jersey dress is body conscious with a pencil silhouette and cap sleeves similar to Eva’s red carpet gown with a low v neck, a fitting piece for many occasions. Available at Bergdorf Goodman.
For a sexier take on a red carpet style, take a note from Mad Men star January Jones, who vamped up her look with a plunging v-neck, fringed red silk Versace gown. Translate the red carpet look into an alluring day to night trend with this Donna Karan stretch jersey draped dress with a plunging neckline available at Bloomingdales. Nanette Lepore’s flirty Ingrid dress with a low zip v-neck and casual front pockets is a fun yet bold easy-luxe take on a sexier evening garment. Get this look at Saks Fifth Avenue.
Another great look at this year’s Golden Globes was worn by House star Olivia Wilde who was adorned in a chocolate brown strapless Marchesa gown that lit up the red carpet. This elaborate gown, fit for a princess or celebrities alike, can be a great inspiration for your next cocktail or party dress. This BCBG MAXAZRIA Runway strapless embroidered and tulle dress is flirty with striking detail and is easy enough to wear to parties or a night on the town. Available at BCBG.com.
