The online community Foodiacs for food enthusiasts (http://www.foodiacs.com) has partnered with the Oakland, CA-based Back To The Roots (http://www.backtotheroots.com) to offer a grow-it-yourself box garden of delectable pearl oyster mushrooms. Foodiacs will launch product offerings such as this – referred to as events – every two weeks on Tuesdays at noon through March 2012. The Back to The Roots mushroom kit is sustainably grown right in the box with recycled coffee grounds, producing 1/5 lbs. of your very own home-grown mushrooms in as little as 10 days.

You’ll savor the Foodiacs website if you’re zealous about food and fine dining, and you’ll salivate over the Back To The Roots mushroom kit and attendant recipe for Grilled Oyster Mushroom Skewers. All you need to do to harvest your own city mushrooms is open the box and mist. You might also want to leaf through your recipe books for mushroom tarts, mushroom omelets and fresh mushroom soup.
