Metro Man & Metro Home

Imagine designing your own unique Nike basketball shoes: placing the colors you choose wherever you prefer them, deciding what style shoe you like the most from studio-exclusive styles, which material suits you, and even adding your own name or nickname to the side for a final flourish. That’s precisely what you’re expected to do in a one-on-one session with a friendly Nike associate at the Nike ID Studio. You design it, and Nike ID builds it.

The process – from creating the shoes of your dreams, with your own message or name on them, to receiving them at your doorstep — takes approximately one month, and is well worth the time and investment. If you need particularly wide or narrow sizing, a large 14 + size, a size as small as size 4, or require independent left or right sizes, Nike ID definitely has you covered.

There are two Nike ID Studios in New York City: one on the fifth floor at NikeTown (6 East 57th Street, 212-891-6454, Monday – Friday 10am – 7pm) and one in Soho at Nike Sportswear (21 Mercer Street, 212-334-4424, Monday – Saturday 11am – 7pm).

My son, a teenager, was thrilled to design his own shoe — and chose a combination of purple and yellow, with the words Tibbster on each shoe in gold. It’s safe to say that no one in the world has quite the same shoe.

Offer this personalization service as a gift, or treat yourself to a distinctive pair of shoes. The confidence imparted from wearing shoes you designed yourself will definitely give you an advantage on the court.
