Metro Man & Metro Home

By Derek S. Gerard

I’m kind of jumping the gun here, but I feel you can never look too far ahead when it comes to warm weather shoes. After being forced to wear boots and all types of winter gear for the past couple of months, it’s nice to start thinking about summer clothing and footwear.

I like to think about the shoes I’ll be wearing on the boat this summer, not my boat, my friend’s boat — when he invites me. This is on the top of my list.

Superga is a 100 plus year-old Italian shoe company that is known for it’s plimsoll-style canvas shoes that exhibit versatility and a cool, classic look. Iconic in their own way, they have a minimalist design with a little “Superga” tag on the side, while they come in an impressive array of awesome colors. They are well designed, machine washable, and have a natural rubber outsole that is similar to the ones found on Clarks Wallabees.

Now, I’m the kind of dude who wears shorts half of the year, and shoes without socks are my preference. The Superga 2750 Cotu Classic has an athletic, preppy style that feels like you could wear them on a treadmill, to a beer garden, or to a pretentious Indie rock show — they’re that versatile.

Many of us try to be on the cutting edge of fashion, it’s cool and fun, but an alternative take on the classics, I believe, is a better “go-to” move in style.
