Valentine’s Day is one holiday I look forward to in this drab stretch of winter blues. As soon as they are up, the red, pink and white hearts and cupid signs in shop windows make my heart jingle. They bring back my Tween years – that age of innocence when romance holds the promise of something magical and mesmerizing. Though stuffed bears, chocolates and hearts are traditional Valentine’s Day staples, if you want to give something with more character and lasting value to your 8 to 14 year old daughter, check out my list for great possibilities.
I love the Olive Juice Kids line. The clothes have a Vintage, old world elegance but are solidly made and comfortable. This charming red Eloise Skirt with white hearts in a tweed/polyester blend is perfect to wear on Valentine’s Day (and ever after). It is lined in 100% cotton, has an elastic waist with belt loops and two pockets. The skirt runs big so I suggest getting a size smaller than you normally buy. It is matched in the picture with a Lyon Sweater that adds a bit of “Je ne sais quoi ” to an everyday look. Check the whole line of Olive Juice kids. After all, there is no true romance without nostalgia! http://www.olivejuicekids.com

A Lock and Key Bracelet by the online retailer Things Remembered is fun to give on Valentine’s Day to a girl who is developing a taste for the mystery and intrigue of romance. This silver plated bracelet, adorned with pink, cubic Zirconium crystal accents, requires a real key to open its locked heart. A set of two keys comes along with the bracelet, one for her and the other for that special person. You can have the heart plaque on the key chain engraved with a Valentine’s Day message for her. This gift also includes a free engravable box. Also at Things Remembered, you will find a personal Journal with a crystal adorned, filigree beaded heart on the metal front cover. Tweens love to write their thoughts in a private book out of the sight of siblings, parents and even friends. You can ask to have your daughter’s name or a special dedication engraved on the front to personalize your gift. Both items are available at http://www.thingsremembered.com
