Metro Mama & Metro Baby

By Kim Taylor

Be enthralled by nature’s jaw-dropping technicolor foliage display at Woodloch Pines, just 2 hours from New York City, or kayak across shimmering Lake Teedyuskung, hike the forested foothills of the Poconos Mountains, or engage in any of the numerous activities for families. A dizzying number of activities include a Broadway-style musical, bumper cars and boats, tennis, an indoor pool and toddler water park, horseshoes, basketball, indoor play forest, shooting barn, kids art room, ping-pong, paddle boats, row boats, kayaks, sailboats, fishing, water skiing, bocce ball, volleyball, a Heritage Nightclub and outdoor picnics. Woodloch offers far more than a weekend’s worth of fun, in a friendly place where kids can romp in nature while parents truly relax.

Package rates can include all or some meals, and the food at Woodloch is family style; in other words, everyone eats as much as they please, and no one ever leaves the table hungry. There are various dining options, from casual to dressy, and a deli for in-room options. Woodloch attracts people who remain loyal for years, returning as often as possible and celebrating major family holidays at the resort, and it’s easy to see why: the warm and welcoming Woodloch staff leaves you feeling as though your family is theirs as well.

For the last 51 years, Woodloch has been welcoming guests and the third generation of the founders remains committed to the resort. Children are encouraged to be exuberant and active, and there’s certainly no dearth of things for them to do. Any season is a great time to visit Woodloch, since activities are based on what nature offers in each: skiing and tubing in winter, lake activities in the summer, and indoor entertainment for rainy days. Kayaking along the lake near a blaze of red, orange and yellow foliage is an autumn treat, along with the resort’s tart lemon ice cream pie. Deer frolic in front of the windows at breakfast, caterpillars drape themselves on leaves for children to discover, and eagles soar above the lake.

Visit http://www.woodloch.com to see a detailed map of the sprawling grounds, find info on rates and packages, and to see pictures of everything this wonderful destination can offer – it could very well become your new home away from home.
