Metro Mama & Metro Baby

By Meredith Clinton Bell

This Mother’s Day weekend, don’t just do brunch. Do an all-out getaway worthy of mom’s greatness…with brunch, too, of course.

At just a short drive from New York City, Boston and Cape Cod make fine spots to score a change of scenery and soak in some coastal air before the summer season gets underway. And with an eclectic mix of activities on tap for Mother’s Day, you should have no trouble finding an itinerary to suit mom’s style.

Cape Cod Bed & Brunch

Set on its own private beach in North Falmouth, The Sea Crest Beach Hotel is ideal for the mom who wants to relax and unwind a bit. Its Mother’s Day brunch, described by Executive Chef Daniel Kenney as “always a sign of spring,” will feature omelets and Belgian waffles made to order along with east coast salmon doused in Maine lobster sauce, Virginia ham, exotic mushroom ravioli…is your mouth watering yet?

Special overnight packages are available for the weekend, making The Sea Crest is an easy, one-stop destination.

When: Sunday, May 11
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (for brunch)
Where: The Sea Crest Beach Hotel
350 Quaker Road
North Falmouth, MA 02556

Dine, Dance & Cruise on the Open Harbor

For the mom who might want to let loose on her special day, leave land behind and board the Spirit of Boston Mother’s Day Cruise. Dinner (or lunch), dancing and entertainment for the kids make this a treat for just the girls or the whole family. Cruise the Boston Harbor and take in the city views while you get some quality mom time.

When: Sunday, May 11
Lunch Cruise: 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Dinner Cruise: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Spirit of Boston
200 Seaport Blvd
Boston, MA 02110

Duck, Duck, Duckling Day Parade

A Boston tradition for over 30 years, the Duckling Day Parade celebrates the popular children’s book Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey. Just the thing for moms with a young family, kids (and adults) are encouraged to dress up ducky, quack their hearts out, and frolic in the Boston Common. Face painting and a puppet show are just a couple activities on the schedule — along with free mini-massages for mom.

Better yet, all proceeds support care for the Boston Common, Public Gardens and Commonwealth Avenue Mall.

When: Sunday, May 11
10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Where: Boston Common, Parkman Bandstand
145 Tremont St.
Boston, MA 02108
Reservations: Register online by May 10 at 8 p.m. or morning of the event.
