Metro Mama & Metro Baby

By Stephanie Ila Silver-Silberstein

What child doesn’t like Legos? Besides the fact that little brothers and sisters can’t knock down their sibling’s creations so easily, Legos are literally wonderful building blocks for your child’s development and imagination. And now, you can take this timeless activity up a notch at the newest Legoland Discovery Center, located conveniently in Manhattan’s backyard: Westchester.

Complete with several areas for free-style building, test-driving and racing lego cars, and climbing and sliding in the indoor playground, Legoland Discovery Center will keep you and your family entertained for hours. It also features the inspiring Miniland, a impressive replica of famous New York City landmarks.

But what sets this destination apart from your local Lego store or indoor playground are 2 amusement park rides (just thrilling enough for your roller-coaster phobic young ones) and a 4-D movie experience complete with wind and snow falling right in the theatre. Climb aboard your mighty chariot and keep score as you set out upon your noble knight’s quest to defeat the skeletons, vanquish the trolls, and rescue the captured princess using mounted lasers on Kingdom Quest! And kids 36” and over (with an adult if under 48”) can pedal fast and fly round and round high up in the air on Merlin’s Apprentice.

Other perks of Legoland Discovery Center include an onsite café and Lego shop and awesome birthday party facilities. It’s also located at Ridge Hill – an upscale shopping center complete with many of your favorite stores and restaurants, an outdoor playground and convenient, reasonably priced parking (validated at LDC for the first 3 hours). Be sure to look into family and individual memberships – this is definitely a place your kids can visit over and over and never get bored. It truly is a ‘discovery’ center.
