Kandi Lightner has a guardian angel who just happens to be 12 years old that lives in Georgia. A few years ago, newly single mother Kandi found her niche in taking apart vintage petticoats and turning them into adorable pettiskirts for young girls. She named her line Kaiya Eve Couture, after her daughter. The skirts were a hit in the trendy Santa Monica Boutique Fred Segal, where celeb moms snapped up Kandi’s creations almost as soon as they hit the shop. Kaiya Eve even made the red carpet when Dakota Fanning decided to wear one to the Teen Choice Awards. Lightner knew that with funds being tight and vintage petticoats being scarce, she needed to come up with a backup plan.
With limited resources, Kandi started her vintage reproduction line. That’s where fate, otherwise known as Molly Swindall, stepped in. Molly was 11 and she wrote to Kandi because she wanted the skirt that she’d seen Dakota wearing. However, since the skirt wasn’t available any longer, Kandi sent her something from the new line. Molly fell in love with the skirt and became Lightner’s best customer, buying virtually every new design for the following year. One day Molly called and told Kandi that her father, Pat, wanted to invest in the fledgling pettiskirt business. Pat Swindall realized that Kandi had a fantastic product and after a phone call to discuss how much she needed to get her product and name out there, he transferred the funds into her account the very next day.
Today the line includes ruffly tops and precious hair accessories, but it is the skirts that are Kandi’s winning ticket. They are beautifully made and come in the most adorable colors from vivid pink to pastel aqua with lavender. With extra fabric along the edges, these are the best ‘twirling’ skirts ever. Our model fell in love with them!
