Starting a business is hard work, but these women make it look easy. With a nod to girl power, here are three women-owned businesses to watch, turning out everything from beautiful bags to adorable artwork.
Jamie Lentzner, mother of two, started Jamie’s Painting & Design over four years ago from her garage in Northern California. Stumped by the lack of personalized decorative items for her new daughter’s room, Jamie created her own hand-painted name tiles. This talent, combined with her love of kids, made her into a hip, working mama. She now balances owning her own company with being a mom, thanks to the help of her amazing team: her husband, friends and family. Jamie’s ceramic name tiles, name plaques and birth certificates add a personal feel to baby’s abode and will put a smile on the face of any new mom. Bridgette Chambliss is the creative mind behind Mighty Politey, offering adorable tongue-and-cheek onesies and tees for babies, toddlers and even chic mamas. Mighty Politey was born in Bridgette’s home four years ago with just seven initial designs and door-to-door determination. Now, with celeb moms from coast-to-coast sporting popular favorites such as Stud Muffin and Lucky Duck, The Mighty Politey line is thriving. Bridgette is still mostly in charge of the production herself, believing that every child wearing a Mighty Politey shirt is wearing a piece of her. JP Lizzy is the brainchild of entrepreneur and designer Wendy Barry, a motivated mama who conceived the idea for her company after giving birth to her twins, John and Emma. Wendy knew all too well that moms experience changes and challenges, and a bag that could offer form and function for any stage of life was essential. Hence, her line was born, offering bags that will take a woman from trendsetting “fashionista” with a sassy purse, to super-mom with a pretty diaper bag, and even career woman with a messenger bag perfectly suited to the boardroom.
