Metro Pets

By Sharon Gomes Thomas

You’ve been thinking about getting a dog or cat, and have been visiting the local shelters, trying to find the furry love of your life. What’s the common saying? – That your adopted pet picks you, and you’ll know “the one” right away.

To make it easier for you to find your new pet, join the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals for Adoptapalooza. Meet wonderful cats and dogs for adoption, including pure breeds. More than 200 dogs and cats will be available for adoption from over 30 rescue organizations.

This free and fun event features activities and entertainment, which includes raffles, training, pet photography and agility demonstrations. If you already have a pooch or kitty, you can get advice on pet health care, training, and grooming.

Adoptapalooza Union Square
Sunday, September 9, 2012
Noon–5:00 p.m.
Union Square Park, Manhattan

Adoptapalooza Union Square has partnered with the Petco Foundation. Visit their Facebook page at and “like” them. And you could win a $200 Adoptapalooza Gift Card or $300 Gift Basket from Petco!

At the event you can also enjoy a special skateboarding performance by Wally the dog from Animal Planet’s TV show Who Let the Dogs Out. After you get your new pet, you can have your dog or cat microchipped for $25 and register for a dog license (required by law in NYC). Or have a session with a certified trainer from Petco.

Meet pet-related vendors and get free merchandise. Freebies are always great! And continue to support rescue efforts – Rock & Rawhide will be collecting clean blankets, sheets, and pet toys to distribute to animal shelters.
