There are so many great events in NYC, supporting animal advocacy, that it’s hard to enjoy all of them. Here are a few upcoming occasions that you might want to grace in the next few weeks:

Get beastly with the Beasties! Rock the house for a pet cause.
EVENT: Gimme Shelter - Rock And Rescue NYC
WHEN: Wednesday October 4th, 2006, 7pm - 1am
WHAT: A charity event hosted by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (www.aspca.org) to benefit local rescue groups and NYC’s homeless animals as NYC moves towards the goal of entirely no-kill city shelters by the year 2010. Animals available for adoption.
WHO: Beastie Boys, Joe & Albert Bouchard of Blue Oyster Cult, The Choke, The Duelling Bankheads, Joe Hurley and the Gents, Marshall Crenshaw, Murray Weinstock, Nellie McKay, Sic F*cks, The Star Spangles. With special appearances by Debbie Harry and Miss Guy.

EVENT: Adopt-a-Cat at CFA-Iams Cat Championship New York
WHEN: Saturday, October 14th, 2006, 10am – 6pm
And Sunday, October 15th, 2006, 10am.– 5pm
WHAT: Come out to Madison Square Garden and meet your new feline love! Cats and kittens of all kinds, sizes, colors, and breeds will be available for adoption from more than a dozen shelters and rescue groups. And this year, the cat show’s agility competition will be open to the feline public and rescue cats!

Meet Maddie and make a difference in a mutt’s life.
EVENT: Mayor’s Alliance/Maddie’s Pet Adoption Festival – Manhattan
WHEN: Sunday, October 22nd, 2006 (rain or shine), 11am – 4:00pm
WHAT: Dog and cats from area shelters and rescue groups for adoption. Low-cost micro-chipping clinic for dogs and cats @ $25 each. A veterinarian, groomer and trainer will be on-hand to answer questions. Get photos taken with Maddie, the six-foot-tall Miniature Schnauzer mascot for Maddie’s Fund.

EVENT: Volunteer Orientation for Animal Care and Control of New York City
WHAT: You are never too young or old to volunteer. The Animal Control and Care (www.nycacc.org) need volunteers to help in their worthwhile efforts. Volunteer jobs range from administrative, grooming, photography, and even dog walking. If you would like to volunteer, then join them for the next upcoming orientation and become a member of the AC&C family.

EVENT: North Shore Animal League America’s DogCatemy Awards
WHEN: Wednesday November 29th, 2006, 6pm - 10pm
WHAT: At this red carpet gala, an expected crowd of 500 people will view celebrity made short films starring their pets. Later that evening, the films will be awarded just as they do at the Oscars; best film, best dog actor, best cat actor, best cinematography, best costume design, and more. Join the fun and rub shoulders and paws with notable celebrities. Well behaved dogs welcome. All proceeds from this event will benefit the life-saving mission of the League (www.nsalamerica.org)
