When I was in college, my roommate and I didn’t share much in common. She was a true outdoor type, who loved to go hiking and horseback riding. On the other hand, I was a TV junkie and my idea of a hike was a jaunt through the shopping mall. However, we did share a cat named Texas, that my roommate had rescued from the farm where she boarded her horse. Texas was a true ham, who loved to prance around us when we were home from school. He performed his version of cat acrobatics with his toys. And everyday, he would launch himself on the window screen, hanging from his claws, while he meowed at the passing birds and squirrels. He was born to be a competitor for agility.
Cats are infinitely nimble, jumping from atop the TV to hanging on the window drapes. If you have a feline who loves to scamper over ramps and chase her imaginary mouse friend through tunnels then the Feline Agility Competition is your pet’s showcase for athleticism and curiosity. The Cat Fanciers’ Association (http://www.cfa.org) and the Iams pet food company are hosting the Cat Championship at Madison Square Garden, New York on October 14th and 15th. One of the multi-attraction events is the CFA’s newest feature: the Feline Agility Competition. This particular event is open to all cats, domestic or pedigree. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required, so if you feel that Fluffy is particularly frisky that weekend, bring her down to enter. Go to http://www.cfa-iams-cat-championship.org/agilitycompetition.html for details.
New York is a hard place to find true love, but the Cat Fanciers’ Association’s show at Madison Square Garden will be the right place to look for love on Saturday and Sunday, October 14th & 15th. Scores of the hippest cats in NYC will be available for interviews with prospective adopters. Saunter over to the Garden Terrace, where 500 lovable furry balls will be ready to jump into your arms. Admission is free to meet the adoption- ready cats at the Adopt-A-Cat event. Presented by the Cat Fanciers’ Association (http://www.cfa.org) and the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals (http://www.AnimalAlliance.org), the pets looking for a new home come from various rescue organizations.
