Metro Pets

By Sharon Gomes Thomas

Darby my pooch met her first cat a couple of weeks ago. Or should I say, she was introduced to a feline frenzy. We were invited to a friend’s new home, and being an avid animal lover, my chum invited everyone’s pets to the housewarming party too. What I failed to ask the host and my other friends was whether they were bringing their dogs. Turns out, I’m the only dog owner among this circle of pals! Since she hadn’t met cats before, Darby treated them with mild curiosity and playful gentleness. The cats, however, were well aware that Darby was the “enemy”! There was an abundance of hissing, raised heckles and bared teeth from the cats. Needless to say, I didn’t stay long and was the first guest to bid my adieu. The next day I felt a little guilty for the unpleasant experiences my friends’ cats were put through on what was supposed to be a fun evening. So I sent all of them a little peace offering.

Trixie + Peanut (www.trixieandpeanut.com) had the perfect gift – Woven Dog Breed Catnip toys in the shape of dogs. These cute little poodle, terrier and shepherd dogs come in a set that give kitty the opportunity to exact revenge! The folks at Trixie + Peanut obviously have a great sense of humor. Along with catnip toys in various seafood shapes like lobsters, blowfish and turtles, Trixie and Peanut also have Chewish Cat toys. Available in a charming Hanukkah gelt or lox fish shape, the plush toys feature and elastic string and amusing bell.

I’m tempted to get Trixie + Peanut’s Me Me Me Collar Charm for myself! The playful charm says “Me Me Me” on one side and “It’s All About Me” on the other. These mantras could apply to any pampered pet, or any self absorbed pet owner. Speaking of self interests, the age-old hobby of knitting is enjoying a revival, especially for many New York subway commuters. Trixie + Peanut have the must-have knit kit for dog lovers. Posh Pooches come with needles and a handbook featuring twelve sweater patterns.
