The Dogswalk Against Cancer has taken place for the past 17 years supporting this important cause and this year’s event promises to be the premier pet-centric charity event in New York City. The 18th Dogswalk Against Cancer in Riverside Park scheduled for May 3rd 2009, will be an exciting walk-a-thon and festival aimed at fighting both human and animal cancers. Fundraising efforts benefit the programs of the American Cancer Society (http://www.cancer.org) as well as the Donaldson/Atwood Cancer Clinic at the Animal Medical Center (www.amcny.org). Ten percent of the net proceeds raised at Dogswalk will benefit the AMC cancer clinic.
Enjoy the outdoors, hangout with other animal lovers and know that you and your pooch are helping to save lives. This fun-filled day includes contests, live entertainment, face painters for kids, food, sponsor giveaways, and a free copy of the 2009 Dogswalk Journal. The walk itself will be about a quarter of a mile to ensure that all pets can participate. And out-of-shape humans will have no excuse either!
Also, your dog may be destined for stardom. The top participant of this year’s Dogswalk Against Cancer will be featured in a full-page editorial with the editor-in-chief of Fido Friendly magazine (http://www.fidofriendly.com). Put on your shoes and lend a paw in the fight against cancer.

Can’t make it into the city because you’re at your weekend house in the Catskills? Then you can join the 17th Annual Dogswalk Against Cancer on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at New York’s beautiful Bear Mountain Park. Last year there were almost 1,000 dogs and 3,000 people! The event raised over $100,000 of critically needed funds to support research, education and to improve the quality of life for those with cancer.
The Dogswalk Against Cancer at Bear Mountain begins with a non-competitive walk around Hessian Lake. There are no maximum or minimum amounts and those with pledges of $500 or more will receive the Golden Bone Award. It’s a chance to make new friends and share memories. Every two legged and four pawed step brings a cure closer.
