Metro Pets

By Tom and Mary Watts

Our dog Jed, as a little puppy, would gulp his food. We even put a can of veggies in the middle of his dish, but it didn’t faze him. We had to find a solution and by the time he was 6 months old, we developed the Eat Slower™ Dog Dish. Jed went from an eating time of less than 20 seconds to over a minute. Today, he’s a gentleman diner!

Some dog food commercials show a dog running to a bowl stacked full of food and wolfing it down. Their intent is to demonstrate how yummy their food is. Dogs that gobble their food often swallow air, increasing the risk of Dog Bloat (GDV). This is a very serious condition that requires immediate treatment by your veterinarian and can have dire consequences for your dog.

We realized that for a dog to devour a mouthful of food it must be stacked up, like in some of those dog food commercials. If the food is spread out, it is impossible for your dog to grab a mouthful. That’s how our design was born.

The Eat Slower™ Dog Dish has 7 separate feeding areas around the center cone. Each area spreads evenly, with little or no stacking of the food. With this design, the dog must use his tongue, lips and teeth to get the food. That increases eating time and changes the dogs eating style. It is no longer possible to grab and gulp!

With Jed’s improved eating habits, we’re planning to help other dogs too. In the future we’d like to offer a bowl for cats and small dogs; possibly a bigger size for great big dogs and dogs with really wide faces. Enjoy your pets and take good care of them.
