Last Summer, my dog Darby and I had a fabulous time at the beach. Although it’s barely Spring, I can’t wait for us to be surfing the waves again this year. However, not all dogs love the water. If you’re planning a great beach vacation this year, but aren’t sure if your furry friend will take to the water, send him/her to swimming lessons. The Dog Run NYC (www.TheDogRun-nyc.com) an active doggie daycare facility, is the only place in the city that teaches your pooch how to doggy paddle. Trained animal therapists, with the aid of a dog lifejacket will teach your pet water confidence.
The warm water at their pool is also great for their Swim Therapy sessions. The Dog Run NYC has different classes specializing in weight loss for overweight dogs, senior dogs, and injured animals with joint, hip or other medical problems. There are five different classes and all therapy appointments are semi-private. To make a reservation for Swim Therapy call 212.414.2500. Hours vary daily.
If your Sparky just loves the water and wants to enjoy splashing around the pool, there are also Fun Swims, where you can spend private time with just him at the pool. Wetsuits are available for you. Also available are shower stalls, towels and dryers. Or let Sparky socialize with other water dogs at the Open Swim on Saturday and Sunday 2pm to 3pm. Swimming is great exercise for your pooch, so make a splash at the pool!
