The whole month of April is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month and every year the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals – ASPCA (http://www.aspca.org) spreads its message with the annual Go Orange for Animals campaign, and this year’s event will be bigger than ever. The ASPCA will kick off Go Orange on April 7 when iconic buildings and landmarks across the country will show support by lighting up in its signature color. In New York, the Empire State Building, the Woolworth Building and Con Ed Building will glow orange. In Los Angeles, the LAX Pylons, Los Angeles Coliseum, Pacific Park Ferris Wheel and Santa Monica Pier will be lighting up with this fiery color.
You may not want to glow orange yourself (unless your last self-tanning session went horribly wrong) so pick up an eco-friendly canvas bag for the next time you need to tote your gym gear or haul groceries from the supermarket. Available in several different subtle designs with cat and dog themes, the large capacity bag with sturdy handles will let you show support while being practical too. Available at http://www.ASPCAonlinestore.com
On the heels, or more appropriately, the paws of the lightings, the ASPCA will host a celebration event in New York City’s Union Square Park. The event will be held on Tuesday, April 7th from 4:00-8:00PM and will feature adoptable animals, live music , refreshments, the ASPCA’s animal cops from Animal Planet’s Animal Precinct, expert advice from ASPCA behaviorists and poison control specialists and a variety of pet-themed activities including caricaturists, photographers, air-brushers and other pet-friendly festivities. If you have a dog, bring him to meet new friends. If you don’t have a pet, this may be the time to bring someone new into your family.
It might get chilly at the Union Square event, so warm yourself up with your own thermos or mug like these pretty ones from the ASPAC online store (http://www.aspcaonlinestore.com) The thermos has a slim bullet design, stainless steel construction and push ‘n’ pour stopper which allows to effortlessly open, pour and close the stopper without ever untwisting the cap. Black zippered carrier with adjustable strap is included. The travel mug has a spill resistant lid, a slide lock action for opening and closing and the bottom is covered in skid proof rubber.
For Los Angeles, April 25 is for pet-lovers and their four-legged counterparts, who should head to the Windward Plaza area of Venice Beach to participate in the ASPCA’s first annual Go Orange for Animals 1.5k Wag-n-Walk. Immediately following the walk, enjoy a celebration featuring adoptable animals from Los Angeles rescue group, Bark Avenue Foundation, a live radio broadcast and giveaways from L.A. stations, KOST and KTLK, ASPCA experts, refreshments, activities for people and dogs.
