Metro Pets

It’s time for summer getaways, whether it’s a quick weekend to the Hamptons or a longer stay at a woodland retreat in the Catskills. If you’re lucky enough to be able to bring your best furry friend, you know that your pet comes with a lot of baggage!

Packing for your dog or cat sometimes involves a lot more than just a couple of cans of food. My dog will only drink or eat out of her own bowls (yes, I am painfully aware that she’s a spoiled brat!) and she also needs her own doggie blanket. If not, she paces all night looking for a comfy spot to sleep, and thus keeping me awake on my vacation.

So to ensure that I have all her basics, along with the brand of kibble she likes (shopping for a particular type pet food at a small town store can be a tricky), my dog has her own luggage! Instead of a boring bag, I’ve found the perfect solution in the cheeky playful line from Beatrix (

Beatrix is a New York City based company devoted to creating cool, contemporary stuff. I love their whimsical modern design that is perfect for pet travel as well. You’ll find adorable characters and colorful graphics on products designed with a focus on simplicity and quality.

Instead of carrying a heavy shopping bag of pet paraphernalia, whiz around with a Juju Ladybug or Papar Owl Wheelie bag. The ultimate jet-setting suitcase made of heavy-duty nylon over a sturdy metal frame, the wheelie bag has an adjustable handle with multiple lock settings and is safely PVC free and lead free.

If you’re believer in fresh frozen food, and have to bring that for your pet, use the insulated lunch boxes like the adorable Svenja Robot Lunch bag, with a graphic design of a pink robot walking her robot dog.

And of course, you have to bring your own gear as well. Pack your bikini, sarong and flip-flops in the adorable Esther Bunny or Nigel Fish backpack. These durable nylon packs have a large interior space with a smaller interior pocket for sunscreen and other essentials. Outside the bag has a large front pocket for your paperbacks for beach reading, and two side pockets, perfect for keys and a purse. There is no mistaking your own bag with one of these. Tote along a Yuka Bee water bottle made with food grade stainless steel, and you’re all set for a day of fun.

Pick up the smile-inducing products from Beatrix at the one of the following stores. For a complete list of places that carry Beatrix around the country, check out
